Anyone have a special Anti Virus and or Firewall (Free or Paid version) you liked and that you can recommend ?

I had Microsofts free version and Comodo for the PC and now migrating to the Mac Mini 2011

You don't need any antivirus software to protect Mac OS X from malware. No viruses exist in the wild that can run on Mac OS X, and there never have been any, since it was released 10 years ago. The handful of trojans that exist can be easily avoided with some basic education, common sense and care in what software you install:
Inb4 GGJstudios comes and tells you that you don't need any antivirus.
LOL!

Very Interesting !

What about a Firewall when on the internet ? Same applies ? Does Apple have something inbeded in the OS that protects us from that threat ? Being a PC guy, this would be unheard of not having at least firewall protection.

Very interesting, I say. Thanks

There's a built-in firewall. Go to System Preferences > Security > Firewall to enable it.

There is a firewall in the OS, as what GGJ told you.

The antivirus and frequent security updates were the reasons why i left Windows and switch to a Mac with OSX many years ago. Although I still work with PC boxes at work, but for my personal use, its all Macs.

I don't have a Antivirus on my Win 7 machine - a smart user doesn't need one.
So you're saying security updates are a bad thing? How about all those malware updates lately or the security updates on the iphone?

Mac OSX is not nearly the malware wild, wild west that Windows is. You probably don't need any virus software.

Many people will tell you that viruses don't exist, can't exist, never existed or or never will exist. You reality is that malware does exist for the Mac, zero attacks do occur from time to time. However, it is very uncommon.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Although many people on this forum say you don't need anti virus for some Mac users it makes sense to scan downloaded files before sending them off again to a PC.

As for firewalls, dont you use a router with a firewall? The software firewall in OSX is good if you don't have a router and you're plugging strait into the wall.

Mac OS X viruses don't exist in the wild.
Mac OS X viruses never have existed in the wild.
Mac OS X viruses could exist in the wild in the future.
Mac OS X is not immune to viruses.
Viruses have existed in the wild in the past, for Mac OS 9 and earlier.
The only malware that exists or ever has existed in the wild for Mac OS X is in the form of trojans, which can easily be avoided by the user exercising care in what software they choose to install.

I switched to using Macs at home just over 6 years ago and have never used any antivirus or spyware software in that time. I've not even used a firewall. I've not had any problems. Before that for over 15 years I used Windows PC's with antivirus and spyware software installed and not only did it not work 100% it slowed my system down

No wireless at this time, using the plug in wall until I get the Airport express later. Was hoping that apple will come out with a new update to the airport express so not in any hurry. Good to know that the Mac is more secure and safer than the PC until some hacker/Virus thug comes along and messes up this platform like they have with Microsoft OS's.
