Antiglare on iMac

I am using a Macbookpro 17inch which is 4,5 years old. It has an antiglare Screen which i realy like. Every time i am working on a different Mac with a glossy Screen i think its annoying that you always see yourself on the screen or the sun is blinding you.

My question is now why there is no Antiglare Screen Option for the iMac?

My guess is that Apple was marketing for a perfect display on the iMac, since it's more of a studio environment computer, I guess they'd expect your to put it in a prime place for lighting.

Glass is way less obtrusive to the true colors of the lcd panel than any anti-glare coating, which gives screens a grainy appearance due to how they refract light.

The macbookpro is more mobile, and giving it anti-glare is much more suitable, given that it won't be in the best lighting situation at all times.

I must admit that sometimes the reflections become annoying when I digital paint, and I'm forced to turn the light off to get better color accuracy, but that's been my only problem with it so far, besides that I love the glossy.

Thanks for the quick answer. In fact i have a little problem with the colors on my Macbookpro. Its all a little too dark. In dark movies you cant figure out any details and i cant fix that. Now i am waiting for new Macbooks or iMacs cause i have not decided yet what i should get.

90% of the time my macbook is on my desk so i was thinking about an iMac but the glossy screen is somehow not appealing to me.

Any advice?

What kind of room is it? I have no problem with the glossy screen unless I have the ceiling light on. Glossy is fine unless there is light coming straight at it from some direction, e.g. windows or lights, then there will be reflections.

Remember that you can try it for 14 days and return it if you don't like it. Most people are afraid of the glossy for no reason. It might bother you for a day or two but sooner than later you will get used to it.

If you don't want glossy, you could always get a Mac Mini and a separate monitor that's got a matte screen. I'd probably wait for the new minis, as they are currently one of apple's more overpriced options. Or, if you need more power, you could get a Mac Pro (used, if you don't want to spent that much), and a separate display as well. It all depends on your uses. If you're used to a 4-year-old MBP, then a mini would be just fine for you, I would imagine

Honestly, I love my glossy screen. It gives colors better depth, and I just love the look of it. I don't often work where have a lot of light reflecting off my screen, so that's basically a non-issue for me.

I need some power in the new mac, cause i use CS5, pages, keynote, powerpoint and whatever i need for my work. I also like to play some starcraft2 to forget about all that work

You could possibly try getting a used first or maybe second gen Pro then. Those will have all the power you need, while not being as expensive as buying a new one. SC2 is really the only thing that you listed that a mini would really struggle much with, unless you use heavier software for work.

Sounds like you need a headless iMac. If Apple would get its head of its rear and build it already.

Never going to happen. The market segment for the people who want this but won't get a Mac Pro is just too small.

Anyway, if you absolutely MUST do the anti-glare new iMac thing, applying the anti-glare screen cover to the actual LCD panel rather than the outer glass will definitely yield better results. You'll still get some glare off the glass itself, but the further from the panel the anti-glare surface is, the worse the quality.

Though honestly, I think a used Mac Pro + anti-glare separate display(s) is the way to go for you.

Thanks for all the answers. A mac pro though is out of the question cause it does not fit on or under my desk

So its either an iMac 27 oder a new macbookpro 17.

I am thinking about to get the big iMac and an iPad2 to fulfill my mobile needs. Like hook it up on a beamer for presentations. I think its round about the same money for the iMac+iPad or the macbookpro17.... what do you guys think?
