Antivirus for Mac

I am looking for an antivirus program for i-mac any suggestion? I think my computer may be infected with a virus as the other day my wife opened an attachment in an e-mail and following that our i-photo was missing from applications folder plus some other programs were missing also. Luckily I had a backup using Carbon Copy Clonner.

any suggestion for a good antivirus program? Thanks

There are no viruses for macs. There are antivirus programs though but their only use is to stop you passing along windows viruses to windows users and usually they cause more problems than they are worth.

No, Windows cannot see the Mac partition so no virus in windows could have any impact on it.

Honestly, I don't know. Are you sure the applications weren't accidentally deleted or moved?

But I can definitely say with certainty that it wasn't a virus.

No, Windows cannot see the Mac partition so no virus in windows could have any impact on it.

In theory, couldn't a virus be written to delete the entire HDD, thus erasing the Mac partition as well?

There are Viruses for Macs, of course the few that exist are proof of concept and do not put you at risk. There are a few anti-virus programs out there. I can't really suggest one, but I can say stay away from Norton. That thing is a virus in and of itself.

User error.

Don't be so quick to blame things other than what's sitting right in front of the screen.

Are you completely sure iPhoto has gone? Type iPhoto in spotlight is there no sign of the application or library?

Your wife most likely messed something up, knew she did it but didn't know how to correct it and made up a story about a virus. Her mistake was blaming it on a virus that has never existed.

Isn't there a program that is cheaper, or free? $70 seems like a looot of money to pay to keep from spreading virus's to other computers...
