According to the early Antutu benchmarks, apparently the CPU score difference is very little, and the extra core of the graphics is providing %9 boost compared to the 2018 models.

The benchmarks doesn't mean everything but still, they are informative. So just based on performance, i wouldn't update an iPad Pro 2018 unless i am someone using the hardware on it's limit. I don't know if the 2 gb ram will make a big difference today but most probably will make it more future proof. I still have a 1st Gen iPad Pro, now trying to decide if it is better to go with a 2018 iPad pro with discounted price or the 2020 iPad Pro. Guess i will have to wait to see some deals on the 2018 models.

lol no! 😅 Actualy even before, the refurbished store here was pretty limited.. kinda sucks! 😟

Disappointing if true, as I was hoping for a clock speed boost of about 10-15% for the CPU. However, this is not unexpected, given that it was likely to be the same CPU and it has just one more active GPU core.

Even so, don't think you can exactly say the iPP are wanting in power!
Agreed, and in truth, I wasn't even concerned about CPU speed. My main concerns were memory and base storage, vs. cost, and a backlit keyboard. And 5G, but I wasn't actually optimistic on the latter.

Still, it would have been nice to have had a CPU boost, just for bragging rights. ;)

This is one unfortunate result of Apple essentially competing with itself in the tablet market. The chip in the 2018 model was already such a beast that it was faster than the majority of laptops sold at that time. Even a year and a half later, I have yet to do anything on my iPad that remotely taxes it. With that being the situation, there wasn’t a whole lot pushing Apple to devote a ton of R&D money toward a souped up A13X for this model I guess.

Same here. I will be waiting until the magic keyboards are out and reviewed as well before I buy anything. My original iPad Pro still runs like a champ but the apple keyboard cover I've had since launch hasn't worked in 2 years and as I was about to buy a new keyboard case finally this weekend I was like "why am I spending $125 for a keyboard for a 4+ year old iPad?" and walked away. And boom, new iPads are announced 3 days later.

I can understand that 2018 iPad Pros are plenty powerful for today and I guess that it was also the case when the 3rd generation iPad was released. But still, it it is still an almost 2 years old cpu where i think that Apple may release, as stated also by some rumours, towards the end of the year, a A14X version.

For me, it isn't about braging or overkilling power, it is all about longetivity. It is true that today that power may be unnecesary, but i keep my iPad Pro 3-4 years, and with the development of this lovely device and the app support increasing for it, in near future we may see more pro apps that takes adventage of the power, may be some more 3d modelling apps or even 3d rendering apps. So any more power is always welcome and i guess it is also the case for people who wants to edit 4k videos on iPad. Which is what pushes me to may be buy a 2018 model as my 1st gen Pro is showing it's age and to be honest, i would hate to see a new pro arrive like in 5 months if i buy the 2020 model. But obviously it all depends on the deals i find here, if i dont see a significative discount, for 100-150 dollar difference, i wont buy the old model.
