I am curious to know how different these two look from all angles. Can anyone post pictures when they get theirs? Thanks

Can I also chip in and request for the on screen keyboard comparison? None of the reviewers so far shown it. Thanks!

I haven’t got mine yet but I found these of the 10.5 vs 11:

A comparison of the 10.5 and 11 inch on screen landscape keyboards https://twitter.com/zvuuc/status/1059991818702442496?s=21

I didn’t realise the keyboard would be different.

Here you go:

My first impressions: the 11" is GORGEOUS, feels so much more stylish than the old one..
About the iPad itself I love everything. It is an improvement over the 10.5", even size wise, more than I thought actually. Notice the movie side by side screenshots that I took, the image is noticably bigger on the new one due to the change in aspect ratio that is favourable for widescreen movies.
Note also in the email splitview image, how mail and other apps in 2/3 view now show a full app version, and not just the crammed version with no side list as before. This is great!

What I absolutely DONT like is the new keyboard folio.
Notice how you can't hide the keyboard away at the back anymore while the ipad is standing. This used to be my usual position while watching something for example during eating a quick snack. Now I always have to have the keyboard standing out. Splattering sauce here I come!

Also, notice the one side view that I took, where I am leaning the ipad forward while it's in the folio. At that moment, which you could easily do with the old construction, now it detaches from the folio. Feels weird! And while you hold it, it feels MASSIVE, I guess partly because now you're grabbing it by the keys on the back, while before you were touching soft cloth and it felt lighter. This is a bit disappointing to be honest, while everything else is to love.

I can imagine that the 12.9" feels awesome too, with the shrinkdown of the bezels, but I imagine that with the folio attached it will still be too massive, as I already feel this is on the edge.View attachment 802010

@chfilm thanks for the photos and your thoughts. Enjoy.

If I went 11”, I’d skip the folio completely. No need for it. Will wait on sales for both sizes. I know if I go into an Apple store, I’ll snap one up and I really have no need for this year’s model.

I'm really annoyed by this folio after using it a while, it's way less comfortable to hold the ipad with the folio attached than with the old one!

I’ll probably just snap the folio off whenever I’m using the iPad in hand. I’ll only use it as a stand or cover when I’m not using the iPad.

Does the case hold the iPad in place well? I know it's Apple but if it were me, I'd still be concerned it'd slip out and accidentally get dropped. Although I read somewhere there's a crazy amount of magnets on the back of these new iPads... wonder if it'd stick on the fridge too.

Hey, thanks a lot for that great comparison and your thoughts! Nice pics; excellent comparison shots. I'm really impressed at how much of a difference just a minor change in the bezels has made to the look/feel of the 10.5. I had the 12.9 first gen Pro and when the 10.5 came out I went back to the smaller iPad because, in my opinion, it's a better compromise between tablet and laptop-lite functionality than the bigger Pro is. This year with the smaller 12.9" I briefly considered giving it a try again, but opted for the 11" because, again, what I want is a tablet first and a compromised laptop second. You've really given me confidence in that decision; can't wait to pick mine up later today.

Also glad to hear your thoughts on the folio. That has been my primary concern leading up to today and I'm disappointed to hear that the origami-type positions are gone. I too often used my keyboard in the folded-back standing position, and losing that is a bummer for me. It did a great job keeping the iPad upright without the keyboard in the way while still keeping the edge of the tablet off of the surface it was sitting on, and I used it all the time when doing chores and stuff. This is going to make be rethink whether it'll meet my needs or not.

Thanks again! Grats on your new iPad!

9.7 upgrade to 11...
Ha, that’s hilarious, exactly how a ton of old apps, like Lightroom (even though it gets frequent updates) or Netflix look like on the new 11” iPad. With these HUGE black borders! Hope it gets fixed soon. I wa really considering getting the bigger one this year, but I feel good with the 11” one. The screen feels much nicer and bigger than the “old” one, even though it’s just about 150 pixels.
One thing that I notice is that the digital keyboard is much nicer because of the new layout. I’m typing on it now (because that folio is frustrating me so much, grrrr I hate what they did to it, because I really was in love with the old one).
It does hold the iPad in place firmly yes, but because of the way how it attaches, if you’re used to how the old one worked, you’ll constantly try to fold it in a way that you’ll accidentally detach the iPad.

Probably just a matter of habit tough i hope.
