Any 24" iMac Owners without black splotches?

I was about to buy a 27" refurb, but these recent threads have me very worried. I can't tell if these cases are a minority b/c there an angry minority are more vocal, or if there is really a wide spread case amongst all. And i don't mind shelling out $120 for Apple Care if it protects me this situation more so. Any thoughts?

The complaints of the black spots is run reason I stayed away from the 27" iMac. I really wanted that monitor. I went with the 21.5 iMac in October and have had no problems of any kind.

20 years as a PC user, so there were so new things to learn but love this iMac.

From what I could understand, the black splotches was being cause by dust getting behind the monitor? I saw a guide showing how to fix it and it resulted in blowing dust out. So if you keep your area dust free, I don't think you should have an issue. Plus the thread that was talking about it was from a year ago and only has 5 pages, ranging from people from having G5 iMacs to now. Though, I haven't seen any complaints with iMacs after the July 10 refresh. Most that I have seen have been 09 and early 2010 models. Also, a quick Google search showed that this forum has most.. There were two threads on the Apple forum, but only about 5 - 6 posts on both.

I am very interested in hearing if there is a decent number of people who aren't having this issue. I want to buy a desktop mac this summer, but the mini is too weak and the mac pro to expensive. The iMac is the only option that works for me financially, but I don't want to invest in a machine that's damned from the start.

Edit: Sorry just realized this thread is for the 24", but the OP mentioned the 27" also, so is it a problem for both?

As, I should imagine, is the case with 90%+ of other owners.

Don't forget that it's usually the complainers who find it necessary to broadcast their problems to all and sundry. Such posts don't represent the opinions of the majority.

The iMac is the only option that works for me financially, but I don't want to invest in a machine that's damned from the start.

I'm in the exact same boat and people keep saying it has happened to them 2-3 times after repair. So even if i buy the apple care, who's to say that it will be repaired under apple care and then once apple care expires, go bad again.

I completely agree with this fact, but I also think that some users don't realize what's going on and don't bother to inquire. My wife when she bought a 15" powerbook titanium back in the day got this infamous white splotches but never realized there was a problem until I saw them...

I'll throw in my 2¢. I bought my 2.93 Ghz i7 iMac in August and it arrived with a glob of dust about the size of 6 or 7 pixels stuck within the LCD. In December, I finally took it in and had the whole LCD replaced in one evening. The Houston Galleria Apple Store did a very good job, not scratching the case or anything (however, they lost my keyboard, mouse and documentation... They replaced them the next day). AppleCare saved me from a $710 bill.

Besides the dust, I had no other issues with the first display. It was nice and consistent, no smudges/blotches in the corners. My new display is just as good. I guess I'll just keep my desk wiped down every week or so to avoid dust buildup.
