Any Advice?

Im a computer freak
and recently, a fell in love with mac

several month ago, i bought a 12'' powerbook, and i love it

now its time for me to leave completely the pc world, and buy another mac
(i have an AMD X2 4200, 2gb ram , X1800Xt vga, and an Acer 20'' LCD)

the thing is, i dont know what to buy

for instance, i really like Intel Imacs, went to an apple center, and tried it, and its really fast

but im not shure, cause i dont like too much the aparience of it
im having second thought, and thinking of buying a powermac dual 2.3, with a 20 ACD, but this transition from powerpc to intel is confussing me

can i get an advice of wich computer buy? i know u are all maqueros (mac geeks in spanish )

IMO, you're probably smartest waiting for the desktop version of the MacTel to come out. There WILL be a desktop version. The iMac is just a comsumer version.. there will be a "pro" desktop version eventually.

I feel like spending the money buying a G5 is expensively shackling yourself to depricated technology.

Your English is quite good and better than that of many posters here.

The iMac is a great system for the price, but you shouldn't buy a system if you don't like the way it looks. However, I have an iMac and actually like its appearance now (even though I did not like it in the Apple Store).

I don't think you need to get a 20" ACD unless you really want to sell your Acer 20" - ACD's are great but a bit overpriced (in my opinion).

The PowerMac is a very good system - it depends on what you want to do (but I agree with yellow that it's best to wait if you can). I use my PowerMac for development, and it's great. On the other hand, the iMac has a remote, some nice new software, and a very small form factor. It's also surprisingly fast.

I'd suggest the mini as an option, but I think it'll seem too slow (graphics-wise) when compared to your PC.

What will you be doing with your new Mac?

i would be composing music, editing video (just for fun, my work area is special security) websurfing.

and i would like an intel mac, cause im a flight simulator consumer, and i need my daily flight

Sounds to me like an Intel iMac fits the bill perfectly, other than the fact that you don't like they way it looks. If you really don't like the way it looks, I'd say wait for the Intel Power Macs to come out. I actually quite like the way the iMac looks, but even if I didn't, I'm not sure that would be to big of a deal for me if it was the right computer for my needs.

If you can wait, do it. You'll be happy that you did as the Intel based PowerMac replacement will blow away the Intel iMacs.

As a current owner of a PowerMac G5 Dual 2.5 system, I'll be upgrading to the new Intel based systems when they come out.

have you tested your system against an Intel Imac?
Which is more powerfull?

My Rev. A dual-2.0GHz PowerMac, with its 9600 graphics card, seems roughly as fast as my 17" Intel iMac. I'm sure benchmarks would show the differences, but the basic "feel" is the same.
