Any allu uMB collectors upgraders to MBA?

I upgraded from a 2.4GHz, 4GB, 250GB HD aluminum uMB.
I love the Air beyond which words can describe. It has supplanted the uMB as the best laptop I have ever owned.

I have added the 11" MBA to accompany my Alu uMB. I love it, its perfect and much more portable than the 13" Alu uMB. I've been using my Alu uMB in dekstop mode for the last 4 months anyway, and now its permanently on my desk and still going strong, but the MBA is very snappy and great for on the fly browsing, quick photo edits, and watching movies.
If I didn't want to use a laptop in "desktop" form, I would have gotten the 13" MBA and completely replaced my Alu uMB, but I prefer having a plugged in station, waiting to upgrade to a real desktop. I believe the 13" MBA can replace the Alu uMB for a portable, primary device.

What's this collectors uMB you speak of ? Looking through Apple's stuff, they never released such an edition.

I use a 13" MBA as a "desktop". I'm using it right now in this way. I don't get your comment. It's the same thing as my older MacBook (which I sold, having 2 computers is a waste of money and management hell anyhow).

The 13" uMB was an Apple product that they released for just a couple months before realizing that it should have come out as the 13" MacBook Pro from the get go. I suppose people that bought into it feel bad and call it collector as it was not in the market for a long time.
I have a 13" uMB 2.4/6gb/500gb as my workhorse machine. I could do anything and everything I want on it and it has enough capacity for me to have all my stuff on it. If I could only own one computer today it would be a 13" MBP with 8gb of ram and a fast large HD.
Because I travel a lot I really appreciate the MBA. The 13" RevA MBA 1.6/2/80 I had was a lot slower and more limited but I still loved it for travel as it was MUCH better at that than the uMB. The 13" RevC MBA 2.13/2/128 felt a lot faster than the uMB and was much better at travel but it would slow down if you really pushed it (heat) and did not have the capacity for all my stuff so I kept my uMB too.
My new 11.6" 1.6/4/128 is awesome. A LOT faster than my RevA MBA. Feels similar to my RevC MBA but doesn't suffer from heat slowdowns and 4gb of ram is enough for me where 2gb was not. The 128gb SSD is a bit limiting but I still have the uMB (thats now pretty much a desktop) and there is always external hard drives if I didn't. This new MBA benchmarks slightly faster than my uMB (135 vs 131) and it feels quite a bit faster in daily use.
This is the ultimate travel Mac to date. I can't believe they created something this capable and this portable in a machine I could use all day long. Its specs might not look like much but its an outstanding machine. Yesterday I was using it as a desktop in clamshell mode running a 24" monitor and a host of peripherals and it seemed just as capable as my uMB in that role (even running XP in a Parallels virtual machine) which impressed the heck out of me.
No question going from your uMB to a new 13" MBA would be a significant upgrade in every way (except potentially disk space). Going to a new 11.6 MBA is an even bigger upgrade in mobility but generally similar in performance (and again the disk space thing).

It wasn't a couple of months. They released it in October '08 and 13in MBP came out in June of '09. So it ran for 8 months.
Same for me. I just got back from my first long trip with it and the weight savings was definitely worth it.
I stand corrected however my explanation still stands, it is in now way Collector (a lot of people brand it as Collector when re-selling them)
I had that model and would never call it a collector's edition because it wasn't a collector's edition at all. That's just crazy talk.
That's deceptive since there is no such thing as a Collector's Edition Macbook. It was plain and simply a MacBook that had a run of 8 months on the market (which means it probably has a unit count close to a million or something, that's almost 3 full quarters of sales).
Going to be selling my 2GHz/4GB/500GB aluminum uMB to a friend and picking up an 11.6"/4GB/64GB MBA to replace it. The 128GB drive won't be able to hold everything I need it for (18-21MP photos), so I'm just going to use externals for storage.
My uMB actually had 2 SSDs in it until I decided to sell it - an 80GB Intel X25m and a 128GB Patriot. The Intel is going to be a backup drive now, and I put the Patriot SSD in an enclosure to use with the MBA.

Oh sorry, you can totally use the MBA as a "Desktop", but the way I am using my Alu MB I wouldn't with my MBA, just because I dont want to risk shortening its life. I have it plugged into an external 24/7, on all the time, and just I don't know, seems like I wouldn't want to do that with the 11" MBA.
