Has anyone got ideas for apps that might replace Evernote? I find it too slow as it always tries to sync, even on a fast Pro, so I can not get stuff into it quickly and easily, at least on my iPad (Mac or Win does not have the same problem). I am a paid subscriber but the iOs version is letting me down so I am thinking of ditching it.

I looked at OneNote and played with it a bit but am not keen on the interface and I don't think it does reminders. Ideally I want an aggregation app like Evernote that works on iOs and a Mac (other platforms are a bonus) but also supports basic to dos and reminders in addition to adding web pages and embedded files if possible.

Thanks.

Why not Apple Notes? It's fast, free, and syncs across all your Mac devices.

Evernote is an aggregation app which means you can add files into it like iWork, PDF and screenshots in addition to writing your one notes and moving them into folders that make sense to you and then tag them. Also the search is powerful but it works poorly on iOs in terms of getting stuff in and updating too and PDF annotation is also slow. I think I night have to look at OneNote again, or perhaps Notebooks?

Maybe not a single app, but maybe a suite?

Off the top of my head, the app that most closely matches your requirements is Google's Keep. It has reminders, you can add images, it is on both iOS and MacOS. You can create 'To Do' lists. It also allows collaboration and labels. The only item on you list it lacks is the ability to add files, such as PDFs. But, since it integrates with Google's other applications, you can use Keep for everything else and then upload the needed documents to a folder in Google Drive or attach it to a calendar item.

My guess is an app to serve as a dumping ground for everything, from notes to files.

Lol. I finally figured it out. "Basic Todos", the space confused me. That's what I get for being an old school programmer.

But yeah the aggregator part as a dumping ground makes sense. Unfortunately not many apps offer this.... basically the OP is looking for something like a Apple Notes + Dropbox hybrid.

I kicked Evernote to the curb and imported all my Evernotes into Notes. Haven't looked back. Notes does everything I need from a notes app, even checklists (as a form of basic to-do lists). It sync instantaneously between macOS and iOS.

I tried ditching ever notes and migrating to apple notes because evernote had become too slow.I exported all my files as an .enex file and then imported it to my notes app on the mac and it worked fine. However on my iphone it has been an unmitigated disaster. There were about 3800 notes and more than 7gb of data so it has brought my notes app on the iPhone to a screeching halt. The app just loads a white screen or freezes most of the time . It has become unusable. Even on the rare occasions that it actually loads on my 6 plus (usually after closing all other open apps) the search function doesn't work - which means I have to actually scroll down to find the particular note. And scrolling down nearly 3500 notes is very very slow .Big disappointment. I really want to migrate to apple notes but the experience has been a mess. Tried one note and same problem - One note allows you to migrate notes to your app on the mac but doesn't store the files locally. When I load one note on my iphone it just keeps syncing ( and has been doing so for the last 10 days). If I try loading from one drive it doesn't allow me to load notes more than 100MB. So looks like I am stuck with evernote till apple sorts this out

OneNote has worked very well for me for what you described as needing. Is there something about onenote that you didn't like or have a question about? Apple Pencil support on onenote works very well as well. You may want to look into notability as well. It's not a free form unlimited space like one note (forcing a more typical constrained screen structure may actually work better if you liked Evernote) but it does have nice audio/note sync support that onenote doesn't currently have on the mac/iPad version.

I liked the functionality of one note- The notes were imported to one note on my mac. However the notes have not synced to my one notes app on the iphone. (I have been waiting for a week now).I wish there was a way to directly import notes on to the one notes app on the iphone but the option doesn't exist. There is a way to transfer the .enex file to one drive on the iphone and then import from there but it allows only files of 100mb size on iOS app. My .enex file is 7.5GB

That sounds more like a settings or network issue than app functionality problem. One note syncs perfectly fine on my phone, Mac, iPad, school issued windows laptop and web. I have been on public networks that block it however. Are you logged into the same account on both? Have you added the notebooks for both devices? I have a large archive notebook I am only storing on my Mac because it took too much space on my iPad so maybe that's your issue?

I am logged into the same account on both. I have tried it on my home network and it doesn't sync . Maybe the file is just too large for iOS to handle (7.5GB)

I've got nearly double that so it's not a file size limitation. Like I said, check you've added the notebooks as well to each individual device. It's not simply the same account to automatically sync all notebooks. This is an extra step but a nice feature as I said I have a large archive notebook I don't want syncing on my iPad for space.

Just reinforcing why I like Evernote - ability to load web clips, iwork, office, png, pdf etc into it and to use tags, folders, and search also very good and fast - BUT this is on the mac (or windows). Also adding reminders and using for things like gtd do work in a fashion. The iPad/iPhone app is the one causing me trouble, it seems to sync first and is slow to use and get things into it, perhaps I am just asking too much so may put up with it as cannot see anything else (Except OneNote)!

You can (and I do) everything you stated above *EXCEPT* reminders unfortunately. I don't see a way to do that with one note on the Mac or iPad version. For what it's worth, a quick google search does seem to suggest it's a common feature request. I am happy to help you figure out how to add items/other files/search and organize with one note. I've used it now for grad school, as a teacher, and for my personal life organization and it's worked great. The only features I really want are better export (it makes weird/clipped off PDFs - likely an issue due to the unlimited landscape model for onenote's notes) and notabiity's audio/note syncing (which works on the windows version) but not the iPad or Mac.

Yes, I have this and I like it but use for handwritten only. It does not give me facility of Evernote with tags, folders, reminders and loading of files (even zips) into it.

I confess that I try other notes programs on a regular basis (I might have the problem). I think I just get tired of Evernote, but don't really have any problems with it. In the end it is just so fast to get everything into it and have whatever text or file I need available. Before I switched to Mac in 2008 I was a big OneNote guy. Now it's about speed and function, which Evernote does the best (for me).
