Any antivirus programs for iPad?

Hey, all. Just joined this site. Been reading these forum for a few months since I would be upgrading my iMac G4 to new iMac.

Anyways, is there an antivirus program for the iPad? If so, which one do you guys recommend?

As there are currently no viruses for iOS, no such protection software is needed.

Don't listen to these haters OP. Go with McAfee HD for iPad. Norton still only has the iPhone version and hasn't made an iPad version that supports the larger screen size, never mind all the extra viruses that exist on the iPad and not on the iPhone.

It's probably a very low probability since I am careful about the internet, but nothing is perfect -- not even Apple.

If there were no security issues with Apple products, then there would never be any security updates.

I just was wondering. I run MacScan on my G4. Of course it has never found anything except for some tracking cookies, it gives me some extra peace of mind.

If there would be a virus for iOS, everyone would know it, the www would explode and it would be written about on almost every major gadget blog.

As iOS differs from Mac OS X or any other OS, you really can't run any third-party software in the background right now, at least with iOS 3.x, iOS 4 will change that.

And if there would be viruses or any other kind of malware for iOS, there would be software for it and Apple would be on this.

Anyway, good luck finding such software.

I am surprised by the smug comments here... if you can jailbrake your IOS device by going to a website and sliding a slider the same exploit can be used to deliver other types of code.

Keep in mind that if IOS can be jailbroken, it can be hacked... there are plenty of vulnerabilities and exploits in IOS. People should not think that only the Dev Team are capable of finding these things.

no, but if you are jailbroken you are strongly encouraged to change your root password from apple's default.

I wouldn't mind having a antivirus program in the iPad that can scan network disks. That would mean one less thing I need to carry a laptop around for.

You can safely ignore viruses on the Mac. If there EVER is a real virus in the wild that affects Macs, it will make the evening newscasts it will be so publicized. You won't miss the news. At that point you can start to think about virus protection. Until that happens, no need to worry and waste time over a non-existent issue.

This isn't smugness, it's reality. If that changes, my attitude will change, but it hasn't yet.

As for that jailbreaking method where you go to a site and slide to unlock, Apple already fixed that in iOS. It was a bug, it's fixed, it's over. Just watch the news and you'll know what to avoid. Keep your software updated and any new holes will get plugged.
