Hey folks!

When using apple pages, I remember upon opening it for the first time, the text writing was sort of like in "boxes" you had to insert bits of text, i remember that I disabled it in a setting, to sort of enable free standard writing, like in MS Word. I can't remember what that setting was called and where to find it now. If i wanted to switch between sort of free writing and this sectioned way, that was there on first time opening?

Does anyone understand what I am on about? :D It's hard to explain when you can't remember the setting! :)

It sounds like you're asking about text boxes. Did they look like this?

1629200619596.png

  1. "Click
    the Text button
    in the toolbar.
A text box appears on the page (you can change how the text looks later).
  2. Drag the text box to where you want it.
If you can’t move the box, click outside the box to deselect the text, then click the text once to select its text box.
  3. Type to replace the placeholder text.
  4. To resize the text box, do one of the following:
    • If the box is too small for the text: Select the text box, then drag the clipping indicator

until all text is showing. You can also drag a selection handle.
    • If the box is too large for the text: Select the text box, then drag a selection handle to resize the text box.
To delete a text box, click the text in the box, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.

You can also link a text box to another text box to accommodate overflow text. See Link text boxes.

A text box is an object that can be modified like most other objects; you can rotate it, change its border, fill it with a color, layer it with other objects, and more. You can also change the appearance of text within the box—including its font, color, size, and alignment."

Thank you very much. Yes, I know where those are, maybe I got confused because by default when opened for the first time it uses textboxes, or maybe it was the first template that i selected was based on textboxes. Who knows.

By default right now, if I were to open Pages, it would go in to free writing? No boxes? And boxes then if one only wants to?

Unchecking this, only allows for text boxes incertion, and basically can't type otherwise, it is disabled by default, at least it was when I opened it for the first time.

OK, I wonder if you're talking about viewing your page using the Show Layout view. It would look like below on a new blank page. It shows boxes for the header, main section, and footer. If that might what you're looking for, go to the View menu and select Show Layout.

Unchecking Document Body in the format menu would definitely prevent you from typing. You need to have that checked.
