I was wondering if there's absolutely any benefits from waiting to buy a new Macbook Pro preinstalled with Mountain Lion vs. buying it now and simply upgrading it to Mountain Lion when it comes out. Sorry if this question has already been asked, I couldn't find a thread.

I don't see any benefits. Its going to be the same thing, from the same source. And either way, you aren't paying the $20 USD for it.
Nope, you will get the exact same experience on 10.8 both ways. The ply benefit I can see is you don't have to wait a long time while it is downloading and installing if you buy it preinstalled. But I would buy it now if I were you.

In the old days, it would be safer to wait because you didn't have to deal with Apple Up to date and waiting for the disc in the mail.
But it is all App Store downloads now so no biggie. Get your Mac now and upgrade later. You may even want to wait until 10.8.1 to avoid the early adopter bug issues, but it seems as if DP4 is pretty solid, so GM should work well.

Joking aside you are better off with a current stable release of lion than with .0 of mountain lion, if lion's release is anything to go by you should avoid it until well into .2 release.
Lion was totally different than Mtn. Lion. There were a lot of big changes, including deprecating Roseta support. Mtn. Lion is more like Lion S. There are lots of new features, but not such drastic changes under the hood.
There weren't drastic changes under the hood in lion, just slap on features, mt. lion is more slap on features again with close to none core optimization. None of them can be related to sl.
