it seems they finally integrated a duplicate finder / remover:

From thr Apple website: Photos has a new immersive, dynamic look that showcases your photos and memories. See only the best shots in your library, without the duplicates and clutter. Browse your favorite photos by days, months, and years and get larger previews of all your photos. And Photos is even smarter, so it can highlight important moments like birthdays, anniversaries, and trips.

This is probably the same functionality they demoed on iOS 13 - the duplicates aren't removed, they're just not shown.

Plus, it doesn't look for just exact duplicate files, but rather "near-duplicates", like when you take 10 shots of your dog and forget to remove the nine you didn't like. Photos sees 10 very similar photos taken in succession, figures out which one of them is technically the best and shows that while hiding the others from view. The files are still there.

Any functionality known to be going away? I need to do a major clean-up and organization of my Photos library, and I'd rather not do so only to find out, e.g., Faces is going away in the fall. Thanks.

In the Photos app on Catalina, does anyone know if you still have to import photos into the Photos Library to get them to upload to iCloud Photos?

Reason I ask is, I'd like to keep my original photo files separate, rather than importing them into the Photos Library, but still have them upload to iCloud.

Hope that makes sense.

Cheers

What does really means second plane, minimize app and stay with caffeine app working? Does it work during Screen saver ?

I can't even import any photos from my camera. It says that the file (JPEG) isn't recognised and that information is missing. All worked fine with Mojave so I've got to keep my photos in my SD card on camera for a bit.
