I used the Apple BT, but it was limited with range and had too much static and background noise and people on the other end couldn't hear me 50% of the time. Just decided to use the Motorola BT H680 and I can leave my 3G iPhone in the living room and wander throughout my house and in the front yard without losing the connection.

three quick entries, okay, four

Using with motorola orginial razor and w385.

I've tried numerous jabras over the year. Their quality control is weak to nonexistant. More than half wouldn't work out of the box. They're garbage.

Plantronics discovery 650. Bought at a compusa before they went under in march. Nice charger, comfortable fit. Could hear well, but people constantly complained that they couldn't hear me, that my sound was muffled. Lousy range, it almost had to be line-of-sight or the sound would diminish with static.

Tried Motorola h12 pure. Craigslist. Could not obtain decent fit with supplied earpieces, sound quality decent on both sides. People I was talking to could hear my fine, but I had problems hearing other people. Noise suppression, lousy. Got tired of people saying 'what, what, what' when I was driving. Otherwise fine. Nice charger and accessories. Gave to fiancee.

Original jawbone. Craigslist. Got for a decent price last night, still trying to find the right earpiece. So far, people are saying that the sound quality is marvelous talking to me. Sound quality so-so (people sound tinnny), but I can distinctly hear what others are saying. Looking forward to trying in the car this morning to see how the noise cancellation works. Again, not wild about the sound quality (don't be prepared for a bose listening experience) but this one seems to be the winner out of a big muddled pack. Good range, wandered halfway through the house before it disconnected from the phone.

It seems that different earpieces work differently with other phones. I wish everyone would share what kind of phones they use before they praise or trash earpieces in forums. Maybe there could be a earpiece review site to structure the discussion a little bit. Hmm....

original jawbone update

Tried the jawbone in the car, outside in the Oklahoma wind, etc. Worked great, loved it.

Went on some forum boards and found discussion about using the jabra gel tips on the jawbone for better fit and sound quality. The longer, elongated, clear jabra tip seems to work well. It doesn't screw on and tighten like the jawbone tip, but the sound and fit seems to be much better.

Ran into a clerk at best buy while looking for jabra tips who reported that he's run into a lot of people who are disappointed with the new jawbone. It seems that while they're impressed with the updated noise cancelling technology (noise assassin instead of noise shield), the smaller form factor of the newer piece doesn't serve as well to press the sound sensing nub properly against their faces.
