LEDs are still expensive in those sizes. Only the 15" MBP got them, not even the 17" did.

i think i'd like to see a glossy BTO option on the iMacs. i know LED won't be coming out anytime soon for them, but i do like the look of my Macbook's glossy screen. and i wonder how it'd be on an iMac.

To be honest, I can perfectly understand about the LED backlighting, but there's no reason why Apple can't offer BTO options for people who would like higher resolutions and / or glossy screens.

glossy is definitely a possibility imo. higher res is iffy. i don't know what the panels they're using are capable of or what alternatives are out there of similar quality.

How many desktop displays are there with gloss? I haven't seen a whole lot. It seems a lot less necessary, considering how bright desktop screens are, and how they're used essentially in a single fixed location.

Price - the larger the amount of the same panels they buy, the cheaper they are...

Problem is that the iMac isn't meant to be that much of a BTO line, choose you size, RAM, HDD, and video. I don't see them offering glossy and matte options. When they went Core 2 and the 24" came out last year they were brighter.
