Any chance that we will ever see a threaded Gmail App or is this just a total no go because of Apples native Mail app.

Thanks for the heads up on Gmate. I had never seen that one before. It looks like it still runs the Gmail web interface though which means blocked images in html emails still wont show up and half of them don't render quickly. I also find it odd that for $12 it doesn't seem to include Push.

I gotta think that no push is a limitation coming from Google. I would like badges, etc. as well. And I didn't know it went to $12. Here's the price history: http://appshopper.com/utilities/gmate-mail-for-gmail
There have been some issues with auto-login. The new beta is supposed to fix that. I just got the beta for GMate, but haven't loaded it up yet.

I can kinda deal with the no Push via Pushmail but $12 seems really high. Maybe they meant to make it $1.99 since it was at .99

Apologies if this has already been mentioned somewhere else but I only tried it this morning and it's working for me, my GMail emails are being pushed through to me in about 10-15 seconds. The only catch to this is you can only have one Exchange account on your iPhone at a time. Give it a try, it works great for me.

1. Google Sync is only supported on iPhone OS versions 3.0 and above. You can check your current version by going to Settings > General > About > Version. To upgrade, follow the instructions at Apple - iPhone - New features in the iPhone 3.1 Software Update.. Please upgrade to iPhone OS 3.0 before setting up Google Sync.

2. Perform a sync with iTunes to ensure that Contacts and Calendars from your iPhone are backed up to your computer.

Getting Started

1. Open the Settings application on your device's home screen.
2. Open Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
3. Tap Add Account....
4. Select Microsoft Exchange.

Enter Account Info

5. In the Email field, enter your full Google Account email address. If you use an @googlemail.com address, you may see an "Unable to verify certificate" warning when you proceed to the next step.
6. Leave the Domain field blank.
7. Enter your full Google Account email address as the Username.
8. Enter your Google Account password as the Password.
9. Tap Next at the top of your screen.
9a. Choose Accept if the Unable to Verify Certificate dialog appears.
10. A new Server field will appear. Enter m.google.com.
11. Press Next at the top of your screen again.

12. Select the Google services you want to sync.

13. Unless you want to delete all the existing Contacts and Calendars on your phone, select the Keep on my iPhone option when prompted. This will also allow you to keep syncing with your computer via iTunes.

If you want to sync only the My Contacts group, you must choose to Delete Existing Contacts during the Google Sync install when prompted. If you choose to keep existing contacts, it will sync the contents of the "All Contacts" group instead.

You've set up Google Sync for your iPhone. Synchronization will begin automatically if you have Push enabled on your phone. You can also open the Mail, Calendar or Contacts app and wait a few seconds to start a sync.

I just re-read the OP, I think I misunderstood, I thought he just wanted Push email but I guess he's asking for a Gmail app that pushes to run alongside his normal mail app.

Stay away from GPush, I spent money on that 2 weeks ago and it still comes up with an error message, and I've had no reply from support either, money down the drain.

I used mail on Leopard, loved it. Used in SL with my Gmail account and seemed like it was broke. Now using MS Entourage.. it works better than Mail in SL with Gmail, yet still has irritating quirks. Technically broke as well. Love the MyDay planner, hoping they let you change the colors in the next update. Come on MS!
