Hi. Im REALLY disappointed in the low end MBP having a 8600Gt with only 128 mb. It just really limit the chip.

Would it be likely that apple would upgrade the GPU ram within a month? The two more expensive MBP would then receive 512 mb VRAM..

Am I lost :)?

I just cannot jusitify the price bump between the two models. Its 500 dollars for 0,2 Ghz (no difference) and 128 mb VRAM..

I don't see why they don't offer the choice, when I got my Core Duo mbp back in the day there was the option to upgrade to 256 even on the base model.

sigh.

the times, they are a changin.

Agreed...

Anyway. new question. When will the next major update most likely be? I mean, with a new GPU. I have decided to go with a cheaper zepto until the GPU in the low end Macbook pro receives more VRAM.

sorry but the macbook prolly wont ever get an "increase" of vram considering it borrows any vram from the physical ram.

as to when the mbp gets a new video card? probably next year when nvidia debuts new chipsets for their video cards.

If MMO's are your games of choice you could benefit from the 256MB video-ram. For really high resolutions even 512MB are far too less.

That sick pricebump is mostley because of the faster processor but the VRAM ain't cheap either since these are GDDR3 sticks. Making a huge difference in performance compared to the crappy GDDR2 Dell stuffs onto the 8600m GT's in their Inspirons.

If the next refresh gives 512mb vram towards the 2.6ghz model, the the lowest 2.4ghz model will have 256mb vram as the base.
