my gen 1 is almost dead, but i find gen 2 too unexciting to purchase, should gen 3 be around the corner.

they don't hold their charge. listening to music is ok, but using them to talk on the phone is a disaster.

Ah, that’s a problem with such devices. You can’t really get the battery replaced just like that. Which essentially means replacement of the unit.

exactly so. i'm not complaining - i've had them for almost 2.5 years now - they lasted more than i expected them to. however, if there is 3rd gen somewhere in the nearish future, i'd rather hold off as gen 2 is meh.

Exactly the same boat as you. My 1G are now 2 years 4 months old and talking on the phone is around 40mins and I can just get through a normal length movie. I don't want to buy the 2nd gen if the 3rd gen is coming out soon as, like you, they aren't really much better.

My gut tells me next year spring...

40 min? you're a lucky duck! i can barely get 15-20, that's why i alternate them and let the other one charge. sheet, with 40 min i'd be content))

yea, i would've never expected anything sooner, but there were a couple of rumors here about 3rd gen dropping before the end of year. i was rather sceptical, but i won't argue!! :)

Has there been any rumours about updated AirPods?!

I was at Costco earlier today and saw there was a deal on AirPods 2 for about $134. I almost bought it but I decided to wait for this rumored AirPods 3.

Geez. 20 mins!?!?! Yeah, 40 is doable, but 20 isn't. maybe buy a super cheap pair of BT headphones to hold you over until they new ones come out.

yes, it's misery)

i'm so used to airpods i can't imagine putting anything else in my ears) i will have to just swap with someone at a starbucks without telling them and hope i get the better pair :)

If you don’t hear about new AirPods at the expected Oct announcement, just get the gen 2.
I don’t think that this new model will replace the current ones. Rather be sold along side as “AirPod Pro“ or some such. Personally I like an open design earbud most of the time.

‘they can’t go much Higher in price. Maybe go $99/129 for current AirPods, $149 for wireless charging, $199 for ‘pro’ ?

I had the gen 1 since launch, and was having the same issues. Finally on Saturday I had enough when I couldn’t finish a video I was watching because my AirPods died yet again. I saw Amazon had the gen 2 on sale and went for it. My plan was to wait for gen 3, but figured why not just go ahead while they are on sale. Haven’t looked back now. Battery life is great, and they connect fast. I would say go for the gen 2.

I’ve got the Gen 1 as well and they’re working fine for me so far.

Ain’t the Gen 2 the same as the Gen 1?! The only difference is the WiFi charging case right?! As far as I remember from watching the reviews earlier when they came out, it fits and sounds the same. What’s your experience?
