Any chance we'll ever get HBOGO?

It seems silly that the Roku has it, xBox and PS3 will have it come April 1, yet Apple's device wont....is this an HBO deal or an Apple deal? It just bums me out, HBOGO is probably my number one media app used on all my devices.

Same with Hulu, but thats obvious

Nope, unfortunately...

I'd love to see it on the AppleTV as well.
 
it won't mirror either which is really deceiving. It's not really a mirror if it only shows some stuff.

It will mirror this summer when Mountain Lion comes out for mac. The you will be able to stream everything from your mac to ATV. :)
 
Probably not until Apple comes out with an official SDK for 3rd parties. Right now, they've just been making the apps themselves. But, it's clear that the new AppleTV interface supports a LOT more 3rd party services than the previous one which scaled horribly compared to when it came out in 2010.

Re-subscribed to Xbox live just to use HBOGO. Doesn't Apple have a pretty good business relationship with HBO? You think they're worried it would impact HBO sales in iTunes if the ATV had HBOGO?
 
It would be nice if HBO Go was available on the ATV. Then the million dollar question would be if your cable/ sat provider will let you access it. Comcast and DirecTV does not offer it on the Roku.

Sadly, I don't think that is much of a "question" ...the answer is a NO, from those greedy bastrads.

I just downloaded it on my xbox and watched Green Lantern last night. Completely fantastic, and it only cemented my decission to keep my 360 and give my :apple: TV to my dad.

Assuming the final release of ML does not have an option to allow OS Applications to block AirPlay like they do on the iOS Device. I just can not understand why Hulu PLus, HBO Go and the others block you when they allow their Apps to run on Roku and many other devices that stream to the TV. The answer from Hulu that it is a licensing issue. But not a licensing issue with Roku.

I guess the licensing issue is that Roku paid Hulu a licensing fee and Apple has not. ;)

Seriously, the aTV will get HBOGo whenever HBO feels that it's in their best interest to do so. At which time, they'll talk to Apple about getting it onto the aTV mainpage.

Alternatively, Apple opens up the aTV to apps and HBO just develops an HBOGo app that gets approved.

None of this will happen unless HBO wants it to happen.

This may sound like a stupid questions but if you have HBOGO you have to have an HBO subscription with your cable provider. If you have that why not just turn on HBO as opposed to using HBOGO?

I am a cord cutter, but back when I had cable, it is nice to have HBO on multiple TVs without having to rent/pay the cable company for extras Setupboxes that I used maybe once a week for one show.

If you have a mac, get airparrot, which now mirrors 1080p content on your mac directly to your ATV3.

I ask this question on another tread but did not get an answer. Maybe you can answer. How do you control the mac from the TV Room. With iTunes Airplay you can use your iPhone Remote App. Would I need to get up and walk into the other room where my Mac Mini is to start an HBO Movie and then start AirPlay and then go back into the other room to watch (same for pause etc.). Thanks.

Yes you would have to go to your mac mini and start the movie. However, if you have a powerful enough wireless keyboard and mouse linked to your mac mini, you could theoretically be able to do that away from the mac mini. My iMac is on other side of room where my ATV3 and tv located and i can do all of that from my sofa with the keyboard and mouse.

Thanks for the reply. That was what I was expecting. My Mac is in another room. I may decide to go ahead and JB my Apple TV(s) when it is available for Apple TV 3. Really wish Apple would open the App Store for this. By the way, I do have my FIOS STB in that room so like someone else said I could just use that. I am really testing to see if I can use Apple TV's in the rooms that do not have a STB. I have a 5 bedroom house (4 kids moved out some time ago but visit from time to time) and I do not want to rent a STB for every room when they are lightly used. Also, hoping for a front end (search all) to all of my "content". That is what I am hoping Steve meant my cracked it.

With HBO GO one has access to HBO's library of programs past and present, on demand, versus with HBO only being able to watch whatever they have programmed for that time slot.

What would be even nicer is if one had the option of subscribing with HBO directly (and thus with HBO GO as lovely free bonus), without dealing with Comcast or anybody else. Technically possible, and unlikely as long all interested parties perceive more profit in the current byzantine system.

I have not done a comparison but with Verizon FIOS I have access to HBO On Demand but I am not sure how that compares to the availability of HBO Go On Demand. Have you a comparison and do you have access to much more with HBO Go? If so, this would big reason to use HBO Go.
 
Home Box Office - OD & GO

I have used neither HBO OD (on demand) nor HBO GO. Although my understanding is that the programming available may be identical, and basically HBO's entire library, for free.

HBO OD is cable specific, working very much like other video on demand pay services, only in this case HBO specific programming, and all for free with a subscription to HBO.

HBO GO is free with a subscription, as well. Being similar to HBO OD, an advantage is that access can be mobile, such as being able to access this service anywhere with an iPad, versus only your remote at home with HBO OD.
