Toward the end of the year is a reasonable prediction, based on the release timeline of the Haswell processors.
OCT 1 TO FEB 2014. THEY just do not need to put anything out until after someone else makes a small form factor piece of gear that is close to a mini.
There is nothing that is a real competitor to a 2012 quad mini. If you don't mind bigger gear you can slap a mini silly. but small nothing in the same league as the quad.

So, the GPU is likely to be GT2? How much of an improvement over HD4000 is expected?
So they ran two benchmarks on what is sure to not be fully optimized hardware (since it isn't slated to be released officially for two months) and one benchmark DID hit the 1.5x faster. The consensus has been by experts to be anywhere from 1.5 to 2x as fast. You will notice in those benchmarks that the hd4000 was not 2x as fast as the hd3000 in both of those benchmarks but generally speaking the hd4000 is considered to be 2x faster. Just like any GPU benchmark, some benchmarks will favor one GPU over another.
What we know for sure is that it will be faster, don't we? As long as they receive faster and more efficient hardware customers are happy. Based on this test it might seem we receive a teaspoon of technology advancement each year, however, it's an improvement by 15 to 20% at least, which is noticeable with naked eyes.
I'd hoped that any GPU improvement inside the next Mini would be a bit more substantial. However, this is the Mini we're talking about, so I suspect those benchmarks won't be too far off.
If this speculation proves correct, then I agree, not impressive at all! Also, probably still worse than the 2011 Mini with HD 6630M discrete GPU that I bought.
The consensus of wishful thinkers? Can you show me at least 1 article based on actual testing, or 1 article where an actual Intel spokesperson or engineer makes a promise of that kind of speed improvement? The 4600 is basically the same thing as the 4000 with a faster clock and some more pipelines. So the driver issue is a non-issue.
Interesting consensus. I would suggest that the only reason they might update the Mac Mini before Haswell arrives is if they update the whole range to offer the new ac wifi standard.
I recall that a few months ago, Apple advertised for wifi specialists and I hope that they will update the Airports etc.
Having said that, the Apple TV was not updated with ac when they had the silent upgrade so maybe the higher speed wifi is some way off yet.

I had looked at several articles over the last few weeks, and linked to the one I thought was the most credible. Hudson1 had written, "So, the GPU is likely to be GT2? How much of an improvement over HD4000 is expected?" I agree with philipma1957, that the next Mac Mini is likely to be released in October, 2013 at the earliest. That's because Apple tends to only upgrade the Mac Mini once a year. If the Mini is not upgraded until October, it is more likely that we would see GT3 in it. That would mean a 1.5x to 2x improvement in graphics capability, at least according to the (unsubstantiated) rumors. I would be happier if Apple threw in a discrete graphics card with 512MB of RAM or better...
