Bought a 2.3ghz i9 2019 mbp for legacy purposes like old x86 plugins for logic that will probably never be updated, maybe it was a dumb idea, but it's done.

Anyway, since this forum seems to be the birthplace of that mod, I've read many 2019-2020ish ideas about the mod, where to place, how thick the pads should be etc, but no definitive best guide.

I plan to just follow the only youtube video on the subject (asian guy) and do the vrm only like in his video, not over gpu, cpu or vram or some other weird places I've seen.

Use solid gelid 3mm 12.8/wk pads in strips and not stack, squish and pack for uneven chips to form a solid layer connecting to the backplate, take off the insulation on backplate because no applecare no care, and put a powerful cooling fan underneath the hot backplate and have it at an angle with some back feet, so there's room underneath.

Don't intend to to game hard or anything, maybe a few games in bootcamp, mostly want to just squeeze anything I can out of it for performance as a secondary x86 music and video rendering machine.

Did this mod screw anyones 2019 i9 up after 1 or 2 years? Display issues, battery issue?

I might not do it at all, but I'll just at least buy the pads to have them and decide after playing with its performance, I read monterey is much better with the intel macs than big sur was so who knows.
