Is this even possible ?

Basically my sim slot would be free for future use.

My other question is can i use a esim phone number on my phone with my watch still ?

I keep my primary/main number on esim. Makes it simple to just drop in a physical sim when traveling abroad and use that sim as data for WhatsApp/social media/etc. Absolutely no disadvantage as far as I can see!

Yes it is possible, I am using an eSIM and no physical SIM card. Bit of hassle having to contact my carrier when I move between phones though.
This is the disadvantage.
I do love e-sim for traveling to multiple countries. I love landing at a country and having internet connection as soon as I land, then plot my route to my hotel.

I use a provided that has e-sum support with multiple countries and the rates are cheap compared to my countries internet travel package. It’s a travel game changer.

I'm with AT&T and one rep said I needed the QR code that I used on old iPhone to move number to eSIM, to move to new iPhone eSIM. Another rep said QR codes can only be used once, so I would need another QR code to move my number from old iPhone eSIM to new iPhone eSIM. To get ready for the switch I asked an Apple Store and an AT&T Store, and none of them have QR codes. Some even say QR codes are $5. Anyway, the above Apple Support link you references means I don't need a QR code at all, just my old and new iPhones together!

I'd ask that those that do an eSIM to eSIM transfer will share their experiences in this forum. I've been hesitant to move my primary number to eSIM partly out of concern of how easy (or not!) it would be to switch devices. Obviously with a physical SIM it is quite easy.
