Any evidence that apple is still revamping the mini?

Every once in a while someone who is somehow "in the know" chimes in with some true insider info. I'm wondering if anyone has any good evidence to indicate that Apple is preparing a new mini design? (Yes, my patience is being tested since reading a couple of months ago that Apple had commissioned a mini team to totally revamp and update the mini.) What's the most likely time that the mini will debut? Could it be simply awaiting a new processor design to be made available from Intel? When would that most likely be?

yeah they will prob update it when the new processors come out in a month
it would be stupid to upgrade it with processors that are soon gonna be replaced

after eight year on this forum, as me and another couple of made up characters, i see that apple has moved slowly and does not drop products all that readily like dell, compaq, and hp

what would be sexy would be a mac-mini, maybe the last one, to be a computer with an intel chip with a quad core as standard fare

it would be a great exit for what has been a tremendous success for apple inc.

but i still don't see the need to end the life of an uber small desktop computer, unless the next one in line is the size of an iphone and still has all the capabilities of today's mini-mac, or more
 
The CPU in the current intel mini is EOL'd and intel has announced production and sale end dates.

So

1) Apple will update the mini some day

or

2) Apple bought out the last runs and have stock piled 2,6,12,18 months supply

or

3) Apple cut a deal to keep the chip (or a compatible version) in production

or

4) Apple kills the mini

apple would be stupid to do 2 or 3
they need to either do 1 or 4 quickly cause some people wanna know whats goin on with the mini
 
The mac mini always seems to be one step behind the macbook. So I think when the macbooks get updated, mac mini will take the current processor of the macbooks. Mac mini will never have the latest and greatest, Apple probably just get a discount on old processors and stick it in the mini. We probably wouldn't see a quad-core mini until octo-core is standard on all the other machines. Just like mini still had the core solo when everyone else had core duo as standard.
I doubt that Apple will kill the mac mini though. It is still a great "switcher" machine for PC users that already have the monitors and keyboards and such. It works great as a multimedia mac, secondary mac such as a kitchen mac, or a computer for kids. Apple needs a cheap machine to lure people into switching.

what kinda kicthen do you have??? haha

i switched and its ace, although people do talk like they are miles behind which isnt completey true, i understand that they have slower hdd etc but other than the poor video card its better than people seem to give it credit for, especially in a day to day context.i do all the same stuff as my friend on an imac, although i have a bigger monitor hahaha
 
Why do poeple say the mini is behind the times when it comes out?

Apple has only designed the mini twice - once for the G4 and again for intel.

When the intel mini came out it used current technology and chips - albeit low end. And I think they used current G4 technology with that too.

Technically, the mini was only designed once - when it first came out. Visually the G4 mini and Intel mini are the same. When people say comes out, they mean more like updates. And the mini is almost always behind the times even after it gets an update.

Like these? Apple II line, 68K line, PPC line, Lisa, Newton, Hypercard, 17" iMac, Mac Cube, 4GB iPhone. These are just some of the products that were dropped that come to mind. The years without Steve had plenty of short lived Performa's and such that went away.

Apple has orphaned many users in its history. Not to say these products were not dropped for good reason. Same can be said for any other hardware maker though so to point a finger at dell, compaq and HP is not fair.

One step ahead of ya. Started saving in January. Ready for:
  • Mini
  • third-party RAM and (probably) HD
  • eSATA external HD (oh please Mini have an eSATA port)
  • Time Capsule (to help back-up the Macbook as well)
  • Aperture
  • iPhone, which will probably wait until winter. It would be embarrassing for my six-year-old iPod to have more storage than a fancy new iPhone, so I'll wait for the 32GB iPhone.
Been chomping at the bit for quite some time. I have this nasty old Winderz PC box, and I really don't want to replace it with another hulking tower.
