I looked through one thread but it isn't clear to me whether everyone succeeded. Many are thrilled with the wonderful instructions, but not sure or clear about how many really changed their cpu and what the final outcomes were. How about using the topics already created?

If you could point me to more info or threads other than the main thread, I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks
Thanks for the input. Any and all opinions on this appreciated.I am positive that if someone had something go wrong with the upgrade they would have posted about it in that thread. It is a very simple proces. I upped my 2010 to a hex 3.46 and it works perfect. That being said, if you dont feel comfortable or comfident, perhaps the procedure isnt for you.

Philipma,I understand the op's concern about a failure after all the machines are costly. Also anand has his 2009 dual cpu upgrade failure documented but that is a lidless pair of cpu's also without a retention clip.
The 2010 mac pro hex upgrade is a rare case of an easy upgrade for a decent price boosting the heck out of your machine. Lets face it apple does not let that happen very often (I don't count DIY ram) , so I guess the op is a bit nervous and is thinking this is just to good to be true.
I am also sure that sooner or later someone will f up the upgrade.. I would think this upgrade is easy enough that a guess at a 95% success rate is being negative. More like 98% or better.
Philipma,
Thanks for your thoughts on this. I also left a few questions earlier today on your thread on "How To".
I asked the above question because the threads aren't really clear on how many of the folks who talked about your upgrade really went ahead and successfully did it. And there were issues raised by various participants that, at least for me, weren't clearly answered. I admit that I am a novice at this kind of stuff, though I will most likely go ahead and do this upgrade in the coming weeks. I live in France so it's an extra step to have the cpu delivered here and sent back in the case the cpu is faulty, which is a small risk.
I did look at the Arctic Thermal paste website and they suggested some differences in application and a number of extra steps in applying and preparing the cpu and heatsink, but not sure that it would be more easy or effective than what you did.
In any case, thanks for any updates.
Thanks
