Mobile OSs Any fans of chinese devices here?

I have been using Prestigio Multiphone 5000 for around 8 months now and the experience has been very good. It is sold as Lava Iris 501 in india here. At first, i was hesitant to purchase a chinese product, but since it had good reviews , i went for it. I have to say i have been very impressed with quality chinese devices for the price offered.

Am able to play all mid range games at ideal framerates and no lags. Also, the general performance is quite good and rarely i have lags while browsing/using apps. Some high end games such as NFS MW stutter a little.

Coming to tablets, i just got a new Ainol Venus Tab. The stock firmware was really laggy . So i updated to a good firmware as per recommendation in support forum and installed android tweaker pro+crossbreeder. Now the performance is quite good. The screen is very sharp(216 ppi) which makes reading and browsing a pleasure ( My ipad mini pales in comparsion to the clear text it offers, although the color reproduction/vibrancy is better in mini). The gaming is limited due to weak GPU but all my gaming needs are met by ipad mini as of now.

For both, im able to get 4+ hours screen time as well. I know , for a tablet, it ain't tat impressive ,it has gone through very few recharge cycles and is expected to score 5+ hours some days later. .


All in all, im quite happy with both my "chinese" devices and will be looking forward to future offering.

I used to use a ZTE Blade (I still have it) and am currently using a Huawei Y300 that cost me just over £60 unlocked.

Can't fault the phone for the price. I don't have any issues at all using Chinese hardware. I also got a Huawei E3131 3g GSM dongle for £9.99 and unlocked it for 99p and it works perfectly.

I'm quite partial to a Chinese made bargain.

I have a Huawei Fusion 2. Love it. I could easily see myself getting a bigger screen model. No problems doing anything on it. Currently like $40 refurbished with no contract, and less than $80 new on Amazon. About the same price in stores.

Battery life is great - Getting between 16 hours and three days in one charge, I use Spirit FM on the CyanogenMod 10.1 build I'm using, I have all the latest apps, including Google Chrome, Press, and Maps. I use it at Starbucks to scan my card, and I use it as a fairly decent toy camera.

Technically pretty much every phone you buy is made in China.

I wouldn't buy the budget ones though because the specs are awful. The resolution on what phone you linked looks terrible. 800x480 on a 5 inch screen and the description is even cheeky enough to mention "HD playback"! And it's stuck on Android 4.1 with no future software support, no custom ROMs, no rooting, nothing.

The reviews for that tablet are very mixed, and in all honesty I don't see why you'd buy one over a Nexus 7 anyway, they're already so cheap and if you go on the used market they're even cheaper. A used Nexus 7 is far better than a new generic Chinese tablet.

And what if you happen to get a faulty unit? Amazon is good but after 30 days they will just forward you to the manufacturer. Good luck dealing with the aftersales service at a random Chinese company.

Yeah, which is why I stuck to Huawei. Mine is one that AT&T actually sells, so it's covered by them. They also have a support line you can call for the other models.

You can also root them, and they have loads of ROMs. Mine has CM, AOSP, MIUI, and Pac Man.

But I wouldn't go that route for a tablet either. The N7 and Kindle Fires are cheap enough and have great specs.

As i mentioned, i had bought the mobile around 8 months back when it was still decent specs- 1.2 ghz dualcore, 512 mb ram for a cheap price. Also, the resolution is not that bad, it comes to 187 ppi and the text is clearer than ipad mini. Also, the games graphics look very good on it. Ill admit that currently in just a span of 8 months , better mobiles are available and i too am searching for a new mobile. I just wanted to say that for the price offered, it was a very good deal. When i purchased it, i had no idea as well as no inclination for rooting/modding.

Regarding the tablet, this tablet came at less than half the price of a nexus 7. Since i already had the mini, i wanted a cheap tablet for carrying to work and have no fear of losing it. The reviews are mixed because some people are frustrated over the stock firmware which is horrible. Again, for the price offered, it is really very good and i have no regrets over the purchase.

I use a PIPO Max M6 tablet. This model uses the Ipad Retina display (9.7", 2048x1536). It comes with Android 4.2.2.

I bought it mainly for reading because I like the 4:3 screen ratio.
For reading is perfect, only 30g heavier than Nexus 10 for a better form factor.
For other tasks, not so much. It lags with Chrome of all things, it doesn't work with Netflix.
Being a new product I expect at least one more firmware update, but that thing is not guaranteed with the Chinese branded products.
I hope the XDA developers will pick up the task later on.
