I'm looking for something to replace my 2007 MBP until Apple releases MBPs without optical drives(vowed not to buy another until that useless piece of hardware isn't taking up space!)... I do a lot of work with Final Cut, editing Canon 5D Mark II footage, but I find myself never using my MBP as I have an octo-core Mac Pro for the heavy work.

Has anyone tried Final Cut on the 11" MBA? I'd just need it for quick on-location stuff, like I could do all footage transcoding with my Mac Pro, possibly down to 720p Prores to edit on the MBA. How painful is this?

Let me know of your experiences, if anyone's done this yet haha, thanks.

Why not the 13"? You don't mention needing the smallest footprint possible. Why not get the 13" as it has the same screen resolution as the 15" MBP and you'd get the 2.13 proc along with more possible disk space.

I'm really interested in the 11" because I use an iPad right now for my mobile stuff and I'd like to do a bit more with the same footprint. I went to the store and loved the 11" but felt like the 13" was just a crippled MBP 13". The 11" feels like a whole different monster, I wish I could use one for a week and not deal with restocking fees.

Great points here, just convinced me to order an 11"

I too am interested FCP results as well as other programs like photoshop and aperture.
