iPad mini Any fix or workaround for missing bookmarks icon on new Mini 6?

I'm at my wits end. My bookmarks icon seems to missing the new Mini 6. My iPad Pro 12.9 has one and so does my iPhone Pro 13. The only way to access my bookmarks is from this "sidecar" icon on the left upper toolbar that takes up 1/3 of the screen and requires several gestures to open and close.

Welcome to iPadOS 15. Hoping this gets fixed:

With the new sidebar in Safari when in landscape I go into into my bookmarks and I loose the ability to hide the sidebar without having to back all the way out to the first page of the sidebar. In portrait the hide/show button stays. Either I’m missing something or this is terrible for anyone...

I think that’s just how iPad OS 15 is, and I don’t think there is a workaround?

I really really hate how they jammed everything into that sidecar thing.

I couldn't get off iOS 15 fast enough (luckily on a device that can still run iOS 14).

Not touching 15 again until several point releases.

I just found out there's a workaround that makes it much simpler. Under settings, Safari, school down to the general section you'll see favorites which you you select and change/check to bookmarks Menu folder. When you do that and select the address, search box on Safari it'll bring up your bookmarks. You're welcome!

Ok, good find. It looks like you have to create another folder under "Bookmarks" (i.e., in addition to the "Favorites" folder) for this to work. If you don't have another folder under "Bookmarks", and instead have all your bookmarks directly under "Bookmarks," then this setting does not give you the option to select anything other than "Favorites":
