Are there any good shooters for mac beside counter strike and cod 4 just wondering if theres anything decent to pass the time , I heard a rumor that battlefield 3 might come out fo mac dont know if thats true or not but that would be awesome. And before any PC gamers say blahblah pc for gaming i just want something when im boerd im not spending my life in the game lol

Im sorry I should have been more clear on competive multiplayer but left 4 dead keeps looking better and better to me so may end up getting that.. Can you play left for dead 2 wityh people on pc?
UT2004 Mac, outstanding arena shooter, cross platform capable, with multiple game modes. Maybe a challenge to locate.

I've played Team Fortress 2, and liked it! I'm looking to find a cheap copy of COD 4 online, it looks to be about $25, why does the app store have to be so expensive? I'll check out Counter Strike, does this old game still have a lot of people playing online?
I'm still convinced that the best solution for gaming on a mac is to use bootcamp. Games usually have better performance on windows. That is, you must have a big enought hard drive to create your partitions.
TF2 is pretty good. Hours of fun ahead of you, especially if you like the whole classes idea and running around achivements

"best" is very subjective. I think you mean the game will perform with the lest issues with a good frame rate at higher setting...
to some people that is very secondary to other concerns. Like for myself, I'd easily take half the frame rate at lower settings, running in OSX, to be even better than anything having to run in Windows.

I've never played Urban Terror that I can recall but play TF2 all the time. That said they look very different to me.
I think the biggest difference is that right now (according to the respective websites) Urban Terror has 890 users playing while TF2 has 42,467.
UT appears to be styled similar to Counter-Strike while TF2 has a very unique style. It is class based so each of the nine characters have different abilities and weapons.
TF2 has only been free for about a month and has pretty frequent content updates.

I've played TF2 before and thought that was like counter strike since you have to buy the guns and stuff, I did like it, but I'll give both a try. Knowing that difference in players online will influence my decision, thanks! Does Warrock have a mac version? I love that game!
You don't buy the guns as such. You build up a class by finding or trading weapons (or buying in the real-money shop). They don't drastically alter the gameplay or anything. It's not like you can equip a sniper rifle to a Demoman. They're mostly just variations on the default weapons.
This is a good summary. While you can buy weapons for real world money, there isn't a single weapon you can't also obtain for free in the game.
When you first start TF2 you'll only have the "stock" weapons but these are the ones a large portion of players use anyways, so you won't really have a disadvantage because of it. As you play you'll "find" between 8 and 12 new weapons per week.
So if you like the game and continue to play it you'll be "fully equipped" in no time.
Most weapons in TF2 have some kind of trade off. So even if you buy a weapon, it may not be the "best" for everyone.
Just play it and enjoy it. You'll be automatically awarded random stuff even if you don't pay.

Just realized where I went wrong. I played Urban Terror and not TF2. I'm downloading both right now and will try both out, who knows, maybe I'll keep both! I see that Warrock doesn't have a mac version though
