Im an average size guy and I'm thinking about getting the 38mm Apple watch. It might be a bit bulky as it is so I'm thinking the smaller version will look a bit more sleek.

I ill most likely get the bigger one. Just a thought though. What are you guys doing?

Personally I find the trend of larger and larger watches off putting. I think they look great in the case but when I see people wearing these larger watches it makes me think of clown shoes.

If there is no difference in function between the 42 and 38 then I could see me getting the 38mm. But not first generation.

I too am getting the 38mm...I for some reason have super skinny wrists and am afraid even the small one is going to look too large!

I plan on getting the 38 mm SS, with a few bands to go with it.

I already own a bunch of large watches, with sizes going up to 47 mm (SevenFriday M1, which is attached below), and honestly the best watches are the smaller one. They're just much more comfortable, light, and are not too flashy.

Since the 38 mm Apple Watch does everything the bigger watch does, that's just good enough for me.

I will definitely be getting the smaller one and I'm a big dude. I don't wear watches, but have been using my fitbit the last three months and only use it for its function, not fashion.

It kind of depends on the strap situation. I am leaning toward the smaller watch since I have a pretty small wrist, but I like the leather loop enough to possibly convince myself to like the larger watch if it ends up being 42mm only.

It looks like everything will be available in the two sizes.

I am unsure on the size too. I don't have the biggest wrist, so I don't know if the 42mm will be too big. On the other hand, I don't know if the 38mm will look to flimsy.

Will have to try both before I decide.

I'll have to see both sizes in person, but I think that another factor to consider could also be a slightly bigger sized battery in the 42mm and therefore longer usage time, like with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus ...? Or will the 4mm, even in relation, not give more room for a significant boost of, let's say, 1 or 2 hours extra time?

...or Apple could use the same battery for both making the 38mm a little longer, or Apple could carefully size the batteries making both relatively the same or.....

While I have said and believe the 42 may have a slightly longer batt life we just don't know yet. I would not use this speculation to base a preorder on.

I'm an average sized guy (6', 185 lbs) and I will definitely be going with the smaller size. My wrists are small(ish) and I can't stand how big watched look on me.

I had exactly the same thought! Although another thought comes back to say that while the 42mm may have a slightly bigger battery, it also has a slightly larger display - thus rendering the battery life of the 38mm and the 42mm almost equal ultimately.

To OP -
My friend, although not fat, is certainly not petite and he's going to get the 38mm one - in fact he says he's gonna preorder it the moment they start taking orders!

Absolutely! I'm planning on buying one the day they launch. From what I've seen, the 38mm looks better on smaller wrist, which i have, but also, better in general. I feel it looks appropriate in size, not too absurd, unlike the Almost 360, which reminds me of a steel tire on your wrist.

If I buy one it will certainly be the smaller one. But the more I hear the more I am leaning towards waiting for the second gen.

Depends on the price difference between the 2. it the price of an additional 4mm is $50 or more, then Im definitely getting the smaller one.
