Any harm in not replacing my MBP inverter?

I'm on my 2nd MPB...first one had a boatload of problems and my apple store just did a swap. This one is amazing except for the infamous LCD brightness whine.

I know it has been linked with a bad inverter...but mine seems to be kind of different from most. Here's what I can tell:

- occurs when I turn on the computer or wake it from sleep, audible between brightness levels 9-max (getting louder the higher I get, loudest on max brightness)
- no buzzing at all, just a very high pitched whine
- seems to go away 5-10 minutes after I start using it

So I guess I have 2 questions now:
(1) does this even sound like a bad inverter??
(2) is there any harm in not getting my inverter replaced right now if the sound doesn't bug me? In other words, is the inverter considered "bad" because it whines or is it a sign of a more serious problem?

Cherry if you can live with it for now, than just enjoy it and send it in sometime in the future. You have one year warranty. if it blows up and catches fire than send it in immediatly!

Update:

Woke up this morning, and the whine had invaded my highest LCD setting. Decreases in volume to nothing at level 8.

Weird thing was, I left it at level 8 for maybe 5 minutes then brought it back up and the whine was gone.

Does this even sound like I have an inverter problem?? This is starting to seem much different from the LCD/whine-buzz.

My last day for returns is this weekend, so I'm trying to decide what in the world to do...

I called Apple about the whine and they told me its within the normal operating volume and they cant do anything about it. is there a difference between the LCD whine (inverter) and what I have (which goes away when running PhotoBooth, mirror widget)

This is exactly what the logical part of my brain keeps telling me

My issue with swapping though is that my Apple store is about a 2 hour drive from where I live, and I've already driven there 4 times in the past week and a half since I bought my original MBP. I'm pretty sick and tired of going there.

After getting 2 in a row with problems, I'm hesistant to do a swap again. Even if I open it up at the store, all I can really know is whether or not I have a whine. The problems I had with my 1st one didn't appear until 2 days after I bought it.

So, I can swap it, play "Russian roulette" again and hope I get a good one, or I can continue enjoying the one I have now and send it away to get fixed when I am on vacation in 2 months. My one concern with that is I don't know what an inverter is/what problems it could create, so I don't know if there is any harm in waiting to fix it until it's convenient for me.

I'm very frustrated. If I knew for sure that my issue did fall into the inverter category, I probably would suck it up and make the drive this weekend...but the only thing that seems similar with mine and the inverter issue is that LCD brightness seems to affect whether or not I hear it

yeah they're 2 different problems. Unfortunately I don't think there is a known fix for yours yet (other than temp "solutions" like running your iSight or disabling the 2nd processor when you don't need it).

I think I'm on to something!

The whine goes away about a minute after the display comes back from being off (either by display sleep, reg sleep, or the whole MBP being turned off).

Perhaps the noise goes away when the inverter gets "warmed up?" If this is the case, I wonder if Apple is even going to fix it...

Mine went back to apple for repair today with a suspected faulty inverter, buzzes on all brightness settings apart from zero and maximum. Max is lovely and quiet but too bright to use for any extended period!!

you have a faulty component, get it fixed! ill post back when mine returns, hopefully it'll be buzz free! (it doesn't have the cpu buzz)

If it goes away after a few minutes, it appears that the backlight is just warming up. Many desktop LCD screens, and even other electronic items do this.

If this is the only problem, and it only lasts for a few minutes, I would keep it...swapping it might get one with the other problems.
