Hi

I feel as if I want a website, with forums that will have a lot of members. I won't do one on apple because there are loads (this being the best). Any ideas would be appreciated.

thanks

umm seems a little short sighted to simply want a website with lots of members. I think most communities like MR thrive because the owners of the site run it because they love the topic, not because they want them to have lots of members.

Membership should be a result of a passion for the topic, not a topic as a result of wanting members.

just my 2 cents

So essentially you want to start something that will have lots of followers and allow you to be in control of it.

Hmm..... history books will find you in good company.

What the other posters have said (in their snide little way) is true.. communities don't build for nothing, they are attracted to the site because something sparks their interest. Although it's true that sites such as MacRumors reach a point where their popularity could sustain itself beyond content, it was the quality of the content that brought people here in the first place.

You need to think of something that hasn't been thought of already, implement it quickly, and do it better than anything else, and MAYBE you can have a community like this one.

Hehe, I know a lot of friends who fit this description here at my school. Seems to be a popular desire.

I like the idea of a site about finding interests for those who have no specific interests. Again, a lot of friends I have and myself come to mind on that.

But yeah, definitely don't do a website in an attempt to cater to other people. You will find it is just not worth it (it becomes a burden really quickly)...it's gotta be something you enjoy. Think about what you like and what you feel there is not enough of on the web.

But there are many successful websites with completely different topics all the way from Harry Potter to Guitar. Passion will make it happen!

I want to go to a place with a lot of members and no purpose. Keep us posted. For now I fill that time with a day job...if you come up with something better lemme know.
