I’m traveling and am thinking about getting an iPad while here abroad. Any issues with bringing it back to the US? I intend to use all the US stores for apps and media. Just want the hardware. Any reason to seek out a US part number?

all iPad models are the same. whether Wi-Fi or cellular. There should be no issues. When buying a cellular model it comes unlocked with an esim which is not tied to any carrier. Simply log in to your current carriers account and you should be all set. When abroad make sure your carrier has international plan.

You shouldn't experience any hiccups. It really depends on the country.

Don't think so. I've bought iPads in the USA to send to family overseas and they haven't had any issues with those.

Caveat on cellular, only if buying unlocked full price from Apple or authorized sellers. Carrier-branded, it could vary based on carrier policy or regional laws.

In the US at least, both AT&T and Verizon "lock" the eSIM part to their networks regardless if you bought full price or not.

The annoying thing with AT&T is since the physical SIM slot is technically unlocked, trying to request unlock via the online automated system just tells you the device is already unlocked. It's very hard getting a CSR knowledgeable enough to unlock/change carrier visibility rules on the iPad.

Verizon currently doesn't support eSIM on iPads and you can't use Verizon iPad eSIM for other carriers so it's pretty much worthless right now. Verizon-branded 1st and 2nd gen iPad Pros just had Apple Embedded SIM completely disabled.
