I use iTunes and star ratings for my purchased music with smart playlists. Has anyone noticed Catalina's change to the Music app which messes with star ratings or custom ID tags?

I do too. But mine have been screwing up since iOS 13. When I sync my devices it blanks them out or overwrites them with completely different ratings. But as I say, I noticed this on upgrade to iOS 13 before I upgraded to Catalina.

I upgraded to Catalina much earlier than I originally planned because I hoped it might fix this problem. It didn’t.

My star ratings sync over form my Mac so I haven't noticed this issue. Something I did notice a while back is that sometimes new albums will get an album rating; this will give the unrated tracks grey ratings but won't change my blue, manually assigned track ratings. I think it only happens with albums which I have freshly added or made ratings changes on an iOS device; this is a good AS to strip the album ratings and it does not change track ratings.

At this stage I don’t know what is happening. I’m assuming it’s a bug in iOS, and for me it‘s repeatable. Every time I sync it happens (changes on the iOS device or not). I’m going to hold out for a few more releases of iOS and hope it fixes itself. Then I have to go through my thousands of songs to re-rate them, maybe not a bad thing because I haven’t done it for years and my tastes have changed a bit.
