I have an old mac pro 1, 1 sitting in my garage. Is it still usable? It's in beautiful condition and would hate to see it go to waste. Is there any upgrades I can do to it and make it usable so I can donate it to goodwill? I wouldn't want to dump on them a 50 pound door stop.

Is there anyone that still uses mac pro 1,1 daily and is it a good experience?

Still used everyday here. Works perfectly for Photoshop, browsing, documents etc. Boot drive is an ssd and has 20gigish of ram.

FCPX became a more tricky so bought a trash can.

Thanks for the comments. I think I'll do a cpu upgrade and then donate to goodwill. Hopefully they can resell for a good price.

I don't think it's very usable anymore... only runs Lion, unless you go through a bunch of hacks. If you stay on lion, then everything is old... Safari, etc. Chrome not even support on it. I tried giving mine away, but had no takers... so it's sitting in the closet atm. Next time a friend has a garage sale, I will try to unload it.

As a Windows machine its very useable. I have Windows 7 installed on mine and could use it daily if I wanted to. Anything windows related I need to do (like flashing GPUs), I turn to my trusty 1,1.

Ironic this system is capable of using modern day operating systems from everyone except the company which made it.

Upgraded to 3 ghz processors, threw in a flashed 7950 and loaded windows 10 pro on it. My son uses it everyday for his esports gaming.
