Haha,
They just released the update.
It'll take a few days a least.
We are all eager for dev team news reguarding it.

i'm waiting till installer 4 comes out too.
then upgrade with new pwnage and kick cydia out en take installer in.
i hope dev team combines new pwnage with installer 4 release soon.

Cydia is actually way better than installer ever was. No respringing after app installs, better category management, and more detailed installation process. I would be upset if after Installer 4 is released, people leave Cydia for it. (I highly doubt that will happen.)

Cydia is better

I agree.

I used to use Installer on the original iphone because that was the popular thing to do - I always heard Cydia was way more confusing - but since I started using Cydia on the new iphone, I think it kicks ass. Now with the ability to add sources, and how it's unnecessary to respring after you install an app is very nice of a feature.

The 2.0.1 uodate has been completed and is in testing at the moment.

Really just the firmware bundle needed creating...but the baseband issue needs testing to make sure it isnt going to be a problem.

This is common knowledge but the 2.0.1 update was fine for me having applied it to a pwned 2.0 (non-3G) iPhone.

I lost the jailbreak capability (which I don't really care about at all now that the AppStore is up) and my phone is still unlocked and activated.

So 2.0.1 does not relock the phone?

So 2.0.1 does not relock the phone?

Not one bit. I'm using 2.0.1 on T-Mobile, and there's no problems. The Tzones hack (installed through Cydia) is STILL WORKING. I have EDGE. If you don't mind losing the apps (which I had none) this will free you of Cydia, and you can keep your unlock. :D

I can confirm this too. I just upgraded my phone to 2.01 and it took out cydia (which is good because cydia slowed everything down) but l am still unlocked and activated !

Seems much snappier !

But iPhone dev team (those who makes pwnage tool) DO NOT RECOMMEND UPDATING due to future pwnage methods

But iPhone dev team (those who makes pwnage tool) DO NOT RECOMMEND UPDATING due to future pwnage methods

Here's the summary from the team:

If you own a first generation (2G iPhone), no matter what you do now, you don’t have to worry, the next PwnageTool will get you where you want even if it you prematurely updated. 2G is completely pwned at every conceivable level and you’ll always be OK.

But if you own a 3G iPhone and are looking for unlock in the near future, don’t use Apple’s update yet!

If your 3G iPhone is on a regular contract and you always plan to be with the carrier then you can update but you will lose the jailbreak and access to third party (non AppStore) applications.

If your 3G iPhone is not on a regular contract and you plan to use it on an alternative network to the carrier that supplied it then do not update unless you do it with the impending PwnageTool update.

PwnageTool v2.0.1 does not work with version 2.0.1 of the iPhone or iPod update from Apple.

We will release an update to PwnageTool when the testing has been completed and all applied changes have been checked for safety.

So I can just update through iTunes using Apple's IPSW and it will stay unlocked and activated?

That seems to be the case. If you have a 2G phone which you pwned, you can update (not restore) via iTunes and you're phone will be unlocked and activated. You will lose the jailbreak, thus Cydia, thats all. And then when the new Pwnage comes out you can simple re-pwn, Jailbreak or even if you wanted to go back to 2.0 you could. The crux is this as per the team on their blog:

2g owners are not in any danger of permanently losing either jailbreak or unlock, no matter what they update to. The baseband for 2g is fully controllable. The s5l for both 2g and 3g are fully controllable. It's just the 3g baseband that's still being poked and prodded.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm bored so i'm going for it, updating now. Will probably just re-pwn once that gets updated.

if i used pwnage tool to jailbreak & unlock my iphone 2.0.1, is there anyway to restore & and relock my phone, or will that screw up my baseband?
