OS X Any news of the next Total War for Mac?

Hello Team,

I am just blown away by these Total War games for Mac. Is there any news of additional games? It would be nice if Feral would bring back Medieval and Shogun Gold additions for Mac.

I am 49 years old and finally have a computer that is worthy of these games. I cannot wait to teach my nephews how to play.

Are there any rumors out there regarding this issue? :apple:
 
The original developers ported Rome II to Linux (for SteamOS) so I would not be surprised if they eventually did an OS X port too.
 
I'm hoping Feral will do Shogun 2 Gold or something with all the DLC. I wouldn't mind seeing Medieval 2 as well which would run on a wide selection of Macs very well being an older game I'd imagine.

Who knows what the deal is with the publisher of those games though not to mention Feral's commitments already in progress for this year.

Having visited IMG's Mac games forum recently, seems a lot of strong speculation amongst regulars there about both "Medieval 2" & "Shogun 2" maybe coming to Mac in due course. Going by reading of pre-release clues on the Feral thread on there ("Feral's upcoming project?"), I tend to much agree. Makes perfect sense in view of the success of the 3 existing Total War games for Mac.

Meantime, Feral have recently released (Feb. 27) the Alexander expansion for Rome: Total War.

Shogun 2 is definitely coming, the artwork on the Feral radar marched Shogun 2 art. Crossing fingers for SteamPlay!

I have no clue about Shogun 2 or if it's coming to Mac :)

I know Rome, Empire and Napoleon all use multiplayer code that uses platform specific networking code so cross platform play has nothing to do with Steam support it's down to how the PC version was written.

If the PC multiplayer is rewritten to be platform agnostic then it would be possible. I know we spent a total of months over those three games trying to see if we could get Mac/PC working but it is technically impossible.

I would suspect Shogun 2 would have similar code... Although that's just a guess...

Rome II for mac with SteamPlay would be the bomb. Despite its dodgy launch, CA have patched the hell out of it and are continuing to do so.
 
FWIW, I don't mind if Feral wants to provide their games on Steam. If it allows you guys to reach more Mac gamers, then more power to you. :)

Just make sure you keep providing a non-Steam option, like a DRM-free version (GOG and Humble does this for many games) or the Mac App Store, etc.

Bah. Now they're gonna change that teaser artwork to keep us guessing even more. :D

What is wrong with Steam? The best gaming client ever made and has certainly helped contribute to the increase in gaming titles for OS X since it's Mac debut.

Nothing wrong with Steam. Just that some gamers prefer things to remain non-exclusive on their platform.

If you doubt the strength of feeling about this issue, have a quick gander on Amazon at the lowest 1-star customer reviews for, as an example, Total War games on PC. Most reviewers aren't hammering the games, but Steam itself.
 
I inquired on another recent MR thread, and I seem to be getting mixed answers as to whether Steam requires a Flash installation or not.

I'm not personally against Steam in itself. But upon hearing (some responses) that Steam still depends on Flash to some degree, that leaves me with a bad impression.

Then again, as of today, there is only one MacOSX port that is a Steam-only access game that I really want to play. All other games that I have a desire to play have either direct download versions directly from the publisher or eventually appears in the MAS. I rarely play games as online multiplayer, so the appeal of a Steam chat room (to find online opponents) is not a selling point for me.

I don't want or need to be able to play TW through a Required program other than TW. If I can play through game ranger or mac gaming OR by myself I don't need or want steam. It galls me that I had to go through steam to play TW, on doze, by myself. Didn't buy any more doze games especially if steam was involved. Now only play games designed directly for the Mac and don't miss it for a minute.

I remember you are French, from previous posts. How is Napoleon TW? I am still tempted to buy it from MAS. The reviews on MAS are very mediocre (3 stars out of 5) but most complaints are about initial installation problems. What's your impression of the game?

Rome II is still a massive disappointment. The patches have made it better but I still wouldn't recommend it.
 
They probably had a much bigger budget this time around however they spent it all on improving the graphics.
