OC Baby!
I've heard conflicting information on the availability of the 3g version at Best Buy on Friday. Anyone have any other information?

Last I heard, it's a go - but have you tried contacting your local store to see?

I think the fact that you have heard conflicting information tells you that the average person doesn't know for sure what's going on with Best Buys 3g inventory.

I am still confused as to what time the 3G would be available at Best Buy. Is it when they open or at 5PM on Friday?

Probably 5pm. That is how they handled the snow leopard release. I went in around noon and they told me to come back at 5.

I called three best buys within an hour driving distance of me yesterday. They all said they would definitely be carrying them, with very low quantities, but they will not be available until 5PM, as they are not allowed to start the sales until 5PM. Again, there's no proof of this- just me talking to two managers and one employee at three different locations.

I stopped at the BBuy by my office in Kennesaw,GA today. It has an apple section. I spoke with the Apple sales guy there (the black shirt'er). He said that they haven't been told yet how many they're getting in and what they're getting, but that they should know sometime tomorrow. As far as how it's going to be handled, that's up to Best Buy itself (probably the store manager) but he assumed it would be the whole 2pm give out tickets and 5pm start handing them out to folks with tickets.

But the upshot is, they still don't know squat and won't until probably tomorrow afternoon or Friday morning at the latest. Apple's secrecy has this so under wraps that their own sales people don't know what's going on.

My local Best Buy basically said that its first come first serve at 5pm. They will not be handing out tickets. Just show up and get in line.

i went BB in Orange on my lunch break today and no firm answer. they are getting them, but the overall consensus is the qty will limited and it'll be first come first served. No date on when, just call or stop by.

I called Best Buy a few minutes ago and a lady (customer service) tried to play stupid with me. She was acting like sher never heard of the iPad. She told me, "whatever that is their not in stock right now and we dont know when we'll get more"...she pissed me off!

I called three 'nearby' Best Buys too and also got conflicting info. One guy told me he wasn't sure how they're gonna handle it but said probably they will do the ticket thing. Another store said they will sell them at five, when asked if they'll do tickets he said doubtful. Another store wasn't sure they were getting them until June. I laughed a bit at that last one.

So basically... Nothing to report, the employees are def. clueless how it's gonna happen. I'm gonna be there before they open... Just in case.

I asked two guys at the Reston, VA Best Buy what kind of crowd they expect. They both said they don't know. I said "am I the only person asking about the 3g iPad?" A blue shirt guy said they've been getting questions from other people as well.

It's hard for me to gauge if this is a big deal in reality or a big deal on macrumors.com. That's what I was trying to get a sense of, and my impression is that there's been interest by Best Buy customers, but not crazed Wii-type interest.

I hate to tell you something, she probably is stupid, I've talked to those clowns on the phone before they'll make ya nuts!
