Any news on Nexus 5? I'm ready to jump ship from iOS bandwagon....

October is the month for that.

I'd bet on a slightly bigger screen like a 4.5 over the current 4.3, just a hunch after seeing the article about them trying to scale back on large screens.
Please explain to me why the vanilla android S4 appeals to anyone? All your left with a plain piece mediocre plastic. More than 1/2 of Samsungs appeal is in their software value ads.
I can sortof see the appeal of the plain android platform on the HTC One but still you're missing out on the cool elements of the One minus the build quality.
Yes, all your left with is the latest version of Android running silky smooth, with a fantastic camera and large 1080p screen. Some of us like the build quality of the S4, or don't care that it's plastic. Yes the HTC One feels nice but I'd much prefer to have the S4 over it. I've seen the camera in person and didn't like it. I also don't care about most of the Samsung features, I think most of them are gimmicky or don't really work very well.
Actually that's not correct. While the S4 does have a great camera, all of the cool camera features will be left off of the S4GE because they are software that belong to Samsung. You're left with the stock android camera software which is very mediocre.

The only thing missing from the camera are the things like Action Shot or the gimmicky features, it's still the same great camera. If I really missed that stuff I could get the same stuff from Apps. For point and shoot, or videos like I shoot, it's the same great camera.
You may say more than 50% of the GS4's appeal is Samsung software.....
I say 100% of my disgust with Samsung comes from its Software.....
The other 100% of my disgust with Samsung comes for their ridiculous marketing that ridicules users of other platforms - the people they are trying to get to switch.
Anyways, I was all ready to plop down $650+shipping for the GS4 GE, but decided that between my iP5 and my HTC One, I'm set and would rather put that money to good use.....
My old iPd classic needs a new hardrive for the refurbishment to be complete, so I bought a 128GB SSD that I'll install
.Aside from that, the Nexus 5 will be on my radar as will the iPhone 5S. Still would like a stock Android to play with new Android releases, but actually would rather the middle-end Nexus line at its current unlocked price points.
Like others have said, I'd guess we'll be waiting until the fall, possibly early winter for it.
mainly as others have mentioned, the screen and camera, which are two major downfalls of the current n4. Personally, the biggest downfall is being a phone...making phone calls and using speaker phone. The speaker placement and call quality are just poor enough to push me to either the $599 HTC or the $649 gs4 (google editions).
4.45" is what I heard.
And if you are on PA or CM with pie controls, you get all 4.7".
I guess expandable storage? It is the only "Nexus" device to have expandable storage after all.

Those are fair points but the speaker on the S4 is basically in the same place as it was on the S4 so I'm not sure the speaker quality would improve.

I can use more than 16 Gb of space. I know, i know, you don't care, but i do.
The camera is a step up. Again i care.
The screen is full 5 inches. Again i care.
The phone is lighter and doesn't need as much babying thanks to that "cheap" plastic. I am tired of babying my iPhone already. And i hate cases. Ugh.
I can use LTE with stock android. Again i care.
So come again?
Couldn't you just have summarised that by saying "why would anyone want stock Android?".
Why wouldn't anyone want immediate OS updates directly from Google?
Why wouldn't anyone want an unlocked bootloader?
Why wouldn't anyone want the greater speed and smoothness that goes with stock Android?
Why wouldn't anyone want the greater level of community development that frequently accompanies devices running stock Android with unlocked bootloaders?
Why wouldn't anyone want no carrier crud on their phone?
Why wouldn't anyone want less of their storage space taken up by OEM software?
Why wouldn't you want an Android device which gets its updates direct from Google to have expandable storage? (which hasn't happened since the WiFi Xoom and the Nexus One).

If you're lucky it might be really easy to convert your current HTC One over to the Google Edition software.
Despite my general aversion to rooting and ROMs....I'll definitely be keeping an eye on things as the GE One is released.
I'll also be checking on the Nexus program and the 5 - if Google is going to release these "google editions" as a sort of "high-end" nexus, they might keep the actual Nexus line in the middle range with the $300ish price tag.
Unlocked, at that price, I'd be more than willing to pick up the next generation. I sold my N4 with the intention of buying the GS4 GE. Since I had already sold it before I decided to stick with the devices I have, I'll wait until the next version.
Otherwise I likely would've kept my N4. Oh well.....got a nice 50" Flat Screen with some of that money and as I stated, a nice 128 GB SSD for my iPod classic
rumors suggest that it will have a 2.3 GHz snapdragon 800 processor and will hit the market in October, really excited about the nexus 5 but i don't want LG to manufacture it.
Why not? LG's recent offerings are pretty decent compared to their phones of yesteryear.
If it ends up anything like Galaxy Nexus, it will be neither rooting nor ROM'ing. It's a conversion.
My GN was bought from a carrier here in Australia which meant that even though it was a Nexus device, I had to wait for their updates. I converted it to the Play Store software ("Yakju") and now my Nexus gets updates directly from Google, and it does not need to be rooted, ROM'ed or have an unlocked bootloader after this one-time process was performed.
