Of course, you'd want to run all four channels for optimum performance.

I thought you were supposed to buy memory in "matched kits"... yet this Hynix memory is sold by the stick

Retailers are the ones who heavily promote that to get you to buy more memory.

Most users aren't going to notice the difference between 2-4 DIMMs where capacity isn't a factor, the difference between 3 and 4 is tiny for content creation workstation performance.

Buy DIMMs from the same manufacturer with the same specifications you'll be fine. Filling all 4 channels shouldn't be something to try attain, just go for the capacity you want.

A website I stumbled upon the day before the oct 22 announce was between 700-800$ for a 32 GB matched of 4x8 of PC14900 .. ECC .. there were 2 options, one with the hypnox -sp? tech, one without.

The prices above are great.

I see… I'm going for 32GB and it's not a big difference in cost doing 2x16 vs. 4x8 based on the site you linked to.

I see… I'm going for 32GB and I don't see a way of doing that affordably without filling all slots.

Those 16GB DIMMs at Superbiiz just dropped massively in price. $340 for two and shipping. That's what I'd go for if I were you.

Ha you edited, 16GB DIMMs were $190 when I posted the link originally. They will come down more.

Yeah, you have a good point… I'll watch these prices between now and when the nMP ships. Thanks!

Any reason to go with Hynix vs. Crucial (Micron) other than price? For my money, I'll go with an established brand over an upstart (never heard of Hynix -- please educate me!).
