I must say the Note 9 is pretty darn nice phone... the google search bar, real time weather on screen, snappy, battery life, beautiful edge screen, etc. Curious if any current users are thinking of going back to iPhone or not and why!? So many benefits to both systems/phones. (Samsung/Apple).

I am. I currently have a Note8 and I'm switching for the first time to the dark (or bright) side.
I'm having a really bad experience with Samsung's customer support that i needed to contact about a screen issue.
The only worthwhile customers support in Italy is Apple and its Apple stores.
Plus I usually get really bad battery life on my Note.
Anyway the software is really good and clean now even on Samsung's Android skin. It feels polished enough and full of features.
Remember that my experience is personal and it may vary.

Former Note 8 owner here: I definitely will try my best to go with an iPhone upgrade this upcoming month, even if it is an iPhone X.

I invested in an Apple Watch this summer for $100. I basically doubled down on iOS in a way. Samsung has great hardware, but their software isn't my cup of tea. They have too much bloatware, gimmicky features like Edge Screens, lack of timely updates, and some weird software quirks. Samsung's customer service is a dumpster fire.

If I am spending top dollar on a phone, I might as well go for an iPhone for the long-term software support, hardware/software blend, faster app updates, better dev support, stronger integration with my current products, and the Apple customer service.

No thanks on Samsung. Only way I would buy one of their products is if it's the last option available. I rather consider a Pixel, LG device, Sony device, OnePlus device before I go Samsung again.

Customer support is big with me and one of the reasons I've been sticking with Apple. I'm lucky enough to have an Apple store 20 minutes away

I'm an S9+ user. I'm open to the idea of switching back to iPhone. Here are my reasons:
  • I have a soft spot for Apple products
  • Gesture-based UI
  • Apple Ecosystem
  • iMessage
  • AirDrop
  • Handoff
  • Software updates
  • Privacy
  • Security
  • Most likely better battery life with X+
  • Usually better quality apps
Why I don't want to switch back to Apple:
  • Spotify commands don't work with Siri
  • Siri is worse than Google Assistant
  • Can't download apps not in App Store
  • Can't download videos from Safari
  • No multi-window
  • Less customization
  • My car doesn't have CarPlay, but has Android Auto
  • Have to pay extra for fast charging
  • No headphone jack (not super important though)
  • Samsung Pay >>> Apple Pay
We'll see if Apple can persuade me to switch back. The freedom of Android and the flexible hardware features of the S9+ combined with the stability and speed Android has gained over the years has been a dream. I don't have any of the frustrations caused by the limitations of iOS. However, it does bother me how much Google is tracking me, not getting timely software updates, and having to deal with worse alternatives of iMessage and AirDrop. Plus, like I said before, I have a soft spot for Apple, so I pretty much am always thinking of switching back in the back of my mind, even if my current device is logically working better for me than the Apple device would.

I have a Note 9 and an iPhone X as my usual phones on my nightstand. Each phone has a watch with it and a set of bluetooth headphones. I swap phones regularly.

The big Apple draws for me are:

  • Support, it is world class.
  • Privacy. Apple is clear on their privacy policies. Apple is neutral good where I think Google is neutral evil in privacy efforts.
  • Security efforts from Apple are better integrated. Android and the various skins from Samsung, etc. have many types of security models that talk about being secure but are not.
  • Ecosystem integration, Apple Watch, Apple Music, iMessage, iCloud and family sharing all form a perfect little walled garden where everything just works (until it doesn't, but it is usually fixable).
  • The Apple Watch is the best wearable. I've had multiple Wear OS and Tizen based watches over the last two years. None of them track heartbeat and integrate payments as well as the Apple Watch. Before someone says Gear S3 has MST, it is a small advantage but it is not as reliable. Wear OS and the hardware it is deployed on is absolute hot garbage. Laggy, slow and the interface changes every update. Tizen is much better but more like a comparing a casio calculator to an iPhone.
  • Software updates. Much better than Android. If something breaks in Android, they fix it the next month. Apple will fix their screw ups quickly usually.
  • Applications are still better on iOS.
  • Accessory support is usually better on iOS.
  • I use assistants in a limited way that just happen to coincide with where Siri shines. Siri shortcuts filled in the last gap for me for a phone assistant.
  • AR is better on iOS for the very few times I have used it.
  • Application options and trust in the app store. There are craplications, but nothing like the google play store.
  • Lag. Yes iOS 11 was laggy in some instances but it improved and never reached the lag levels seen on Android by me. Google's Pixel 2XL was great for about 2 months. After 2 months, laggy...then very laggy. Factory reset, great for a month then laggy. Swapped (terrible service) and the "new" phone was laggy again until I moved it to Android P for the beta.
  • Bluetooth support. Always perfect. And airpods are perfect.
Here are my Android draws:
  • The cameras on the Android phones are insane. I can tell by looking through my pictures when I used an iPhone. The Pixel 2XL and Samsung Cameras are crazy good. If I know I will be taking pictures, I grab my Android phone always. (This is my one hope next week, better cameras and a little software improvement).
  • Customization. It's just fun to change it up.
  • No walled garden. If you want to root your phone and mess it up feel free. Many, but not most, Android phones allow some level of unlocking and root.
  • Modding community. Like the iOS jailbreak community but much larger. All the drama and all the great work at a large scale.
  • Sound customization. I can change the sound on most Android phones to help my ears hear better.
Walking away from the nightstand in the morning, I usually grab my iPhone. Usually I want a phone that just works and I use like a utility. When I want to take pictures or play with the interface, I grab my Android phone but that is usually rare. Though with the Note 9 this month I have been carrying it more often, but even with the new Note I still grab the iPhone when I head out for a longer day of work.

So for me, if you want a new hobby, buy an Android phone. If you want a phone to use, grab your iPhone. If Apple improves the camera next week, I'll probably dump my Note 9 on Swappa and never look back.

I went from the iPhone x to the note 9 and would switch back if....

-battery can last longer. Right now the note gets me roughly 6 hours of screen time.
- improved face id. I spend a lot of time outdoors and direct sunlight affects face id and iris scan on the note. Quickest and most reliable way right now to unlock under direct sunlight has been via fingerprint for me.
- much better ram management. This was the primary deal breaker for me with the x. I just want my apps to be just where I left them. Doesn't matter how quickly an app opens if you have to find your place again.
-a better camera. The note has a very good camera but it just doesn't compare to the Google camera. I want to take pics of kids, pets, outdoor activities and both the note and iPhone x takes much more blurry photos than the pixel. It's so good that I use the Google camera on my note 9 instead of the stock camera.

I'm not holding my breath though....

As well as I. Have one 9 minutes away and another one 20 minutes away. Austin TX.

I have an apple store about 10 minutes away from where I study so it's not a problem at all. Meanwhile Samsung's horrible support is almost an hour away.
They have had my note for about 2 weeks now and I don't know if they are going to repair it yet.
