i just bought an imac and have realized that the text edit program is nothing compared to ms word

does any onw know of any FREE programs like ms word that makes it easy to change fonts and setting without the hassle of using text edit?

i have to type alot of papers for school and this would make things alot easier

I second the OpenOffice suggestion. If it wasn't for compatibility with sharing it would have replaced MS Office for me years ago.
 
Theres also neo office which is made off of open office :p I use that only becasue i have a ppc and it opens x11 for the ppc version and icon looks stupid :D
 
it exports documents in an uncompilable file extension?
so i cant send files i type to a comp at school that uses ms word???
 
Honestly, you might want to pick up iwork. The pages is probably the best program i have used. well worth it if you going to do alot of typing.

Well all you have to do is open a .doc and then save it as a .doc and always works unless, if at school saves it as a .docx then you will have some trouble, otherwise i find it works fine between school and home.
