I absolutely love Rome: Total War, and i'm just wondering if there are any rumors or anything that are going to be coming to the Mac. I refuse to use bootcamp or anything just for a game...

Who knows. It's not like any current Mac outside of (possibly) the Mac Pro can run the games very well in the first place, so you're probably being done a favor.

that is completely untrue... pretty much every current Mac can game. The best are the higher end 15" MBP and 17" MBP, and right now pretty much any of the current iMacs can game decently to very well.

I'm on a MPB 13", nothing special done to it, just straight out of the box, and RTW runs beautifully on it. My only problem is that, seeing as its just a basic model, this limits the amount of troops i can have on the battle field, even though unlimited troops is turned on -.-

I think you're under-estimating the graphical power of modern iMacs. :)

I recently posted a video of a Lenovo laptop with HD 6630 GPU (same GPU as in high-end Mini, but Lenovo has more VRAM), running Shogun 2: Total War at an average of 20 FPS on ultra settings. You'd probably get a decent average 30 FPS on very high settings.

To me that suggests that even the high-end Mini could play the most demanding Total War game at low-to-medium settings. However, iMacs should easily manage to run those games at very high or ultra settings at more than acceptable FPS.

As for the OP's query, though I've not heard any rumours, IMO, after the success of Rome: Total War on Mac, it's highly likely Feral will release more TW titles in near future.

Feral don't comment on potential games or rumors it gets to complicated too quickly if we do. However we do have an Upcoming Releases page that you can look at and try and guess what is coming next.

You may keep speculating in the thread but before anyone asks I cannot comment on future games, the last Feral forum member who did was used as ammunition in a balista ;)

FWIW, I for one fully understand & respect that stance. Moreover, IMO, that Chopin screenshot on Feral's website could belong to a few games.

Purely as a general knowledge question: I know Chopin's music was part of the soundtrack to "Empire under the Sun". Any ideas what else might connect Chopin with anything to do with Empire? ;)

Chopin is definitely Empire Total War. The Chopin image is cropped from this sea battle. Specifically, it's of the water line of the bow of the ship on the right. In the Chopin image, note the crest of the wave half way down the image, the red tinge at the top (blood) and the almost vertical shadow on the water at the left, not to mention the large number of cannons protruding from a wooden hull!

It would be nice if this were a port of the Empire & Napoleon Total War - Game of the Year Edition but unfortunately the image does not allow us to determine that one way or the other. Here's hoping though!

Good luck with the port Feral; this is a definite purchase from me!

Great link! It totally convinces me. :)

As for speculation about whether it's going to be an Empire/Napoleon GOTY edition: FWIW, partly because each of these games have countless hours of playability, I'd actually prefer Empire: Total War for Mac first, Napoleon later.

Also, in view of the time it'll take to port those games into OS X native-code, it probably makes more sense from a business perspective to do those titles individually.

Feral are an excellent company, but not the biggest. Despite their limited resources, they're usually working on a number of games at any one time. Being dedicated to a Mac gaming market that's relatively small compared to that of PC, I wouldn't expect a discounted GOTY edition for Mac, but you never know.

My own preference is to see Feral release Empire next, then do Medieval 2 on their Legends label as they did with Rome. Dedicated Mac gamers would still have more than enough excellent strategy gaming until Napoleon, & maybe Shogun 2, later, whilst Feral would maximize any financial rewards, as they deserve to.

Empire would be an odd choice, considering how much animosity it generated for Creative Assembly.

As I understand it, most of the early bad experiences with Empire were to do with some players having problems with Steam & the original release was very buggy. Since then & a number of patches, most of the reviews have been very positive indeed.

I guess one advantage of Mac ports coming later is that, by then, most of the PC bugs are usually long-known & can be addressed. I think Empire for Mac would be an excellent choice! :)

I dunno, one of the reasons why Shogun 2 war so well received was because it was back to basics for Creative Assembly. Empire's usually cited as Exhibit #1 for "How Creative Assembly bit off more than it can chew" and "Why can't Creative Assembly fix the problems that have persisted since the beginning of the Total War series?"

Just curious, mostly. Personally, the Total War games are a bit too much for me. I tend to feel real stupid after each battle.

To be honest, i never even knew of the Total War series, but Rome really did make me "fall in-love" with the series. There truly is endless gameplay... with the various factions during campaign and then just online battles.

As for what i'd really enjoy seeing come to the Mac, I'd love to have medieval 2 come over first and foremost (but probably won't happen). Next would probably be Empire... I'm not really too "interested" in Shogun or Napoleon even if those games may be better. For me, i'd rather have the time period i really enjoy playing, than the superior game with a time period i could skip.
