I'm wondering if the IR port on the Mac Mini can be used for anything but the remote? I'm looking at getting an older G3 Powerbook that has IR, and was wondering if I could have one access the other with it? I know, it's silly and pretty slow overall, but it'd just be a cool trick to be able to do. Anyone know?

I don't think so. Media Central has a plug in that allows you to use the Apple Remote for it's software but then to be able to do so you need a Mac with and IR port and would therefore have Front Row and thus no need for Media Central.

I don't think Apple has release an SDK for the IR receiver so until they do there's not likely to be any use other than the remote.

Dang, that's a downer. I guess it doesn't really matter, it's not that useful. I've read that the IR port won't work in OS X on the PbG3 anyways, so it would be pretty silly to have to boot into OS 9 to interface with the Mini.

Oh well, thanks for the quick reply!
