You can integrate your number with Google Voice on some carriers. Then you can use that on your Android devices and any laptop or desktop as long as you install Chrome and then the app.

Texting can be integrated with things like pushbullet, airdroid, Google voice and more. Not sure if there are plans to integrate in stock.

I believe airdroid does calls too, not sure

Oh, forgot to mention you have to get hangouts dialer to make calls through hangouts.
