If there any way for someone with an iPhone to text someone on their BBM?

No, but they can install AIM for BlackBerry and it works just the same, then you put AIM on your iPhone (or Yahoo! or Google Talk but AIM seems to work best on both platforms, Google Talk is great on BlackBerry but not officially supported on iPhone)

I understand the whole AIM pat but that person with the BB needs to have a data plan to do that.

Why not just send them a SMS text message to their phone number? No data plan needed.

If you're going to be sending lots of text messages, then as listed above, there are other options.

Furthermore, I'm no BB expert, but if it has wifi, then internet apps, IM etc will work for free when hooked up to wifi.

Really, I think it's a little silly to get a BB with no data plan or no wifi at home/work.
