I've been using my MBP (15" rev a) as my home computer for a month so far and I started wondering if this might be a bad idea.

I currently have a 24" Dell Monitor that I use as the main monitor, and I use the MBP screen for ancillary things like iTunes and iChat.

Am I running the risk of using my laptop too much? Is it meant to be used like this, or are they only made to handle short bursts of use?

(I should probably mention that I started using it as my home computer because I was getting so tired of my PC that I gutted it and turned the harddrives into network drives on my airport extreme for what it's worth)

There is nothing wrong with using it the way you are. I have gone to a laptop only setup since the PowerBook Pismo. These machines can handle it. They are not limited to being used sparingly. Use away!

I don't think it's a bad idea.. The MBP should be powerful enough!

Definitely meant to be used as it is! So I wouldn't worry too much if I were you.. Even if you're running out of HD space you can always go out there and buy an external HD. :)
