I really like song genie, but not a fan of having to pay $30 for it. I have checked bittorrents but can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know of a similar programs that finds all the missing song information for free, for mac?

Thanks, Ray

Song Genie or MusicBrainz

Hi.

Sadly iEatBrainZ hasn't been developed for a couple of years - though the binary is available for developers. MusicBrainz has a free database for song ID'ing and there is a Mac client available for it. It's not great looking, certainly not as slick as Song Genie, and guess what, it costs $30.

Jaikoz Audio Tagger 2.8

Whatremainz of iEatbrainz

Do you not think the developers should be compensated for their efforts?

They should be, but they should do that by creating a popular program in which many people visit the developer's site, then the developer can charge various companies money to run ads on their site based on the views they get from people who visit to download the free program the developer has designed.

iPhone apps that work!

There are two really good FREE apps for the iPhone that you can use to do about the same thing. They're not as automated as the Song Genie solution, but if you have enough songs to need that, $30 is probably reasonable.
I love Shazam and Midomi on the iPhone because they both work great at identifying songs I play from my iTunes and have even found some pretty eclectic tracks from my library.

But if anyone does find a cheaper desktop client, please post it here!!

That's like buying 2 CDs; which isn't much. I mean if you support the musicians, why not support the developer who is helping you find information.

TuneUp

Can't really answer the questions as to which one is better, as I'm a little biased because I work for TuneUp, but I can say that we have a free version if you guys want to check it out and compare for yourselves. Free version gets you 500 song clean ups and 50 pieces of album art - which is sufficient for most people's music libraries. If any of you guys check it out and have feedback/questions - let me know. I'll be around the forums.

Love tuneup. I have a question though:

I have a lot of jerry reed(like 20 or so albums) that has no album art. If I drag all the tracks to tuneup, it gives me like 30 or 40 albums with one or two tracks each. Is the problem in my library, gracenote, or tuneup. Seems to be the only artist(aside from some really obscure bands) that I have problems with.

To be perfectly honest I am not entirely sure why that one artist would have the issue. Are you using the cover art feature or the Cover Art functionality in Clean? It seems a bit confusing but the way our program works is that we do not use Gracenote for for our cover art feature, we use Google or Amazon because that will get better results. But in order for that to work properly the music has to properly tagged. This is where our clean function, which IS powered by Gracenote, works best. That could be the issue. Either way I will pass this onto our support team who should be able to give me an answer shortly. Want me to PM you?

I'm sure a version of Song Genie can be found floating around on google, for free, like most programs. Personally, i think the program is a bit slow.

You can also try. TidySongs I prefer it over TuneUp. I mean why would a program that's cleaning up your iTunes provide you with concert info. That does not make sense. I prefer a program that just sticks to cleaning and organizing and naming your music. Oh and also adding album artwork. This rocks! I use it all the time over and over again. I have over 150K music in my iTunes and without this program I'd be pulling my hair. Try it for free!

Please don't (TuneUp)

So regret buying TuneUp a few days ago. Butchered part of my collection (mostly asian titles but some domestic US stuff). I stopped it before it did any more damage.

UI is buggy as heck. Try SongGenie or something else.

Waste of money. Tech support questionable (they say they'll get right back to me... and that was a few days ago).

TUNEUP = AVOID

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tech Support did get back to me after a couple of attempts and refunded my money before I did any more to my collection. It didn't work out. I will buy SongGenie next and hopefully fare better. Good luck all you music lovers.

Umm.... self-promotion much?

Mention it costs $39.95
