Any reason NOT to buy from amazon.com?

Sorry for another topic, but the idea of saving for a MBP over a MB or 17" iMac just dawned on me recently, and I'm trying to find the best deals from reputable dealers.

At Amazon, they still have the 1.83Ghz MBP, but it's discounted $200, making it $1799 new. PLUS, there is a $150 mail-in rebate, which would let me buy some RAM after I received the rebate. Also, there is no tax.

I would much rather buy in-store, but if I could get a 15" MBP w/ max RAM (from newegg) new for $1800, I'd be saving quite a bit. Obviously, I wouldn't get the instant gratification, but I could wait a few days to get my laptop.

Anyhoo, any reason not to buy from Amazon? Thanks.

I ordered a 2.0ghz MBP from amazon last saturday. it came around wednesday with standard shipping. pretty fast eh? the MBP box was shipped in a larger plain brown box(it was suspended in the middle w/ styrofoam on all four corners very nice ) i do not have any of the Whine problems. but i may have just gotten lucky. they were very good to work with. and who could pass up those discounts?. i say DO IT you will not regret it. the hardest part is the waiting. and you COULD choos the 1 DAY shipping. plus. if anything is wrong. you have applecare to fall back on.

I'm about to buy a MBP, and I was going the Amazon route and posted a thread similar to this and heard nothing but good things. I buy other stuff from Amazon too. The only reason I'm not buying from Amazon now is because I got an offer I couldn't refuse (1.83GHz with 2GB RAM, like new for $1600 shipped) in the marketplace.

EDIT: And about shipping.... if you can find the page on Amazon Prime, it should have an option to start a trial where you can get 1 Day shipping for $3.99 and 2 Day for free. Just make sure you cancel it before the trial ends, or else they charge you $79 automatically. I'll try to find a link.

EDIT 2: Okay, I found it. It's not a link, but pretty easy to find: Here we go....

And if you don't really buy from Amazon, I'd cancel the trial right after I bought the computer.

I bought an iMac Core Duo for my parents from amazon. Ended up being the cheapest price, even more so than educational prices. We have had zero problems. I say do it.

Those rebates seem to expire, and then are replaced with a new, but similar rebate. I don't think I can save up the funds to buy the computer by the 18th (when the rebate expires), but is there a good chance it will be replaced with the same thing after that?

Also, how long does the rebate take to get back?

I bought my iMac from Amazon with no problems. I buy a lot of stuff from them, actually.

The rebate took a LONG time to get here, though...well over two months.

If you're buying from a seller on Amazon, use the same kind of precautions when buying from eBay, especially with DVDs. Many used copies (especially limited editions of anime like this) are bootlegs. Make sure the number of discs is right (in the link, there should be 6 DVDs and one CD, but the cheaper bootlegs have 3.), and that the price isn't too good to believe (this set retailed for over $100 originally, and came with a numbered wooden box I believe.)

Now, if you're buying directly from Amazon, you really don't have anything to worry about.

Well in the case of the iMac we bought, the rebate expired, and was replaced by the exact same rebate.
