I was wondering if there is any reason to put the MBP to sleep if it is plugged into the power? Basically, I mean can't my laptop operate like a desktop if I leave it plugged in most of the time? Are there any advantages to sleep mode that I am overlooking? Should I be worried about components burning out or some type of power failure? I am not familiar with laptops, as this is one of the few I have owned in my lifetime.

I do not like sleep mode because when I wake the computer up there is lag for it to recognize my Internet connection.

Thanks!

my macbook runs as a desktop for weeks at a time without going to sleep -- and then it's only because i really need it to be portable for awhile.
