Any recommendations for headphones?

I wasn't sure where to post this, but I guess it could go here. I'm searching around trying to find a good pair of headphones. What do you use with your Mac?

I will be getting a iPhone 5, so maybe something the 3-button remote that will be compatible with it. Looking to limit myself to 100 dollars or so. I was looking at the Nixon Micro Blaster, but I'm open to Bluetooth headsets like the Jabra Halo also (which I might go with).

From a standpoint of a non-audiophile that just loves a great sound experience at a moderate price, the Bose and Dre earphones they sell at the Apple store (and which you can very likely get cheaper elsewhere) are fantastic. I use Bose earbuds myself.

I'm most certainly not an audiophile. Heck, the sound coming from the Air's stereo speakers sounds great to me. I am just going to need some headphones for when I'm at the bookstore or on a plane.

I have looked at the Bose, been considering those too.

Sennheiser PX 100 are really good (check out the 1k+ reviews). they are about $95 on Amazon.

also, another very similar design (ultra light over the ear) that's probably just as good are the Koss Porta Pros (although I'm not keen on the design particularly)

this design type is going to have much better sound than the in ear (as there's real bass).
You can't go wrong with these, and everyone should have a pair (audiophiles and everybody else )

Of course, the in-ear have advantages, and they are just another option. (great isolation)

Good thread, and thanks for posting it, but quite a bit of the stuff on the older pages has been superceded by new models.

I'm looking for advice myself on head-phones and have consulted a number of threads on the issue.

Friends tell me that Shure are among the best, but they are also rather expensive. I have had quite good experiences with Sennheiser and Bose.

The low-end Bose earbuds (without that weird curve at the top) are the best buy for the money. I've had my pair since December '09 and they're the best earbuds I've ever used. I've actually had them replaced 2-3 times for things that were actually my fault (stepping on them, washing them (just last night), etc ) and barely any questions were asked. In one case the employee at the retail store just grabbed a pair off the shelf and sent me on my merry way. They're quality earbuds made by a great manufacturer, I can't recommend them enough.

It looks like I have several options, I guess it comes down to preference. Other than sound, I do care about the design. Thanks!

Depending on how much you want to spend, Bowers & Wilkins are coming out with in ear headphones in August. I have their desktop speakers and a pair of their P5s, needless to say I like the quality of the sound as well as the design of both products, but they are very proud of their work!

I own the Bose and actually use them daily. Good stuff as well.

And no, I'm not an audio expert, just a 50 year old guy with 50 year old ears.

I had never hear of B&W, and I looked at their upcoming headphones and they look cool. $180 though, slightly out of my price range but something to consider.

I think I might go with the Jabra Halo. I'm a writer and I'm thinking a Bluetooth headset would be better, although I don't like using Bluetooth for calls much.

I guess I will just think about what style I want. Thanks again.

I've owned 3 pairs of the bose. while they sound good.. they have a weak joint on the input, and you can get much better sound quality for less. the bose is good if you like a bass hump.. but it takes away from the mids and the highs' clarity (i found that the dre beats had an almost similar characteristic as well). sound isolation is pretty poor on the bose also, so that takes away from the sound spacing/dimension. i used to think they sounded great until i tried out others from thinksound, grado, head direct, beyerdynamic, and more. do yourself a favor and take the time to go through that link i posted above. it's fun discovering the right iem for you.

edit: forgot to mention that the chart in that link i posted also indicates which ones have mic/phone and music controls
